Jake's Trump Thread -- Make America Great Again

MICHELLE'S SPEECH WAS TRITE, TOO

July 20, 2016

When MSNBC signed off at 3 a.m. the first night of the Republican National Convention, they were still talking about Melania's speech.

For five solid hours, MSNBC had been obsessing over two paragraphs of Melania Trump's speech that were nearly identical to Michelle Obama's 2008 convention speech.

The similar passages were:

-- The only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams!

-- Your word is your bond!

-- May your tomorrows be brighter than your yesterdays!

-- From tiny acorns great oaks grow!

MSNBC covered the banal sayings as if Melania had been caught selling secrets to the Soviets. All night, commentators somberly intoned, It's essential that the campaign get out in front of this. Trump needs to apologize ... Now is the time for him to demonstrate crisis management skills -- and this IS a bona fide crisis.

It wasn't too trite to copy.

Right this way to the best deal of your life, Mike Pence.

Anyone looking to tune in to the Republican National Convention this week to hear from the man the GOP is seeking to send to Washington to run the country needs to adjust their DVRs, because that speech won’t be given by Republican presidential nominee and apocalyptic circus peanut Donald Trump on Thursday. Rather, it will be given by the party’s vice-presidential nominee, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, on Wednesday night.

So what gives? Well, it’s not entirely surprising. See, Trump has, throughout his campaign, made it clear that he believes that being president is a really easy job ― no sweat for him! But if you want to get a sense of just how easy Trump imagines the office to be, you should check out the Robert Draper’s account of how Trump came to select Pence as his running mate in The New York Times Magazine. It begins with Trump’s eldest son making a back-channel overture to Ohio governor John Kasich, offering him the chance to be Trump’s running mate:

Why not - - the Bush Boy let *Dick Cheney run it for 8 years.

Let's Just hope Mike Pence is not a Huntin' man.

*BTW-- has anybody heard from mean boy Dick Cheney lately. I think he ties with Erich von Stroheim for the man that you love to hate. Speaking of which where is Donald Rumsfeld? Funny how he disappeared and never made it to Gerald Ford's presidential funeral. Hélas, Mon Dieu--GOP memories.

Gary Johnson on CNN this morning pointed out that Mike, the doorstop Pence wants to do away with funding to fight AIDS and instead apply the money to groups that try to convert gay people.

Where does America dig up this religious right wing neanderthals?  They make your country look totally backward.  And more importantly, why are these nut jobs not fringe candidates?  You are voting them in as leaders of your country.

Someone may have already mentioned this, but the guy who worked closely with Trump on "The Art of the Deal" says that Trump is an extreme sociopath who is interested ONLY in self-aggrandizement, has a very short concentration span, and would be very dangerous to have as President.

You are quite right to call them religious right wing neanderthals. These are not the descendants of the English Puritans. They are the descendants of the Scots-Irish who were sent here by James I, some coming to America a bit later, many of them driven by the religion of John Knox, who was so b itchy to Katharine Hepburn in Mary of Scotland. They're basically from the same group that was sent to Northern Ireland. They're harsh version of Protestantism has morphed into something even more bizarre -- like American Wahahists. Many of them were sent to Appalachia.

I wonder who LBJ and the Democrats had to push through. Wasn't it people like Sen. Al Gore Sr., it's seems like I remember someone by the name of J. William Fulbright, and a lot of other segregationist Democrats, Who were filibustering the Civil Rights Act and trying to kill the Voting Rights Act.

And people like that are now Republicans.  Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina is a good example. A Southern Democrat who turned Republican in 1964, because of the Civil Right Act.

Strom Thurmond - - he's the Dixiecrat Who did that long filibuster against the Civil Rights Act.

Then later it turned out that he had a black daughter, who was hidden away somewhere. Go figure--

I haven't yet had much exposure to Pence, but does this guy have anything at all going for him? Right now, he seems like a deer caught in the headlights.

For some reason I remember Bill Miller's in a better light than Spiro Agnew, who actually became vice president.

It's largely forgotten now, but Nixon's Vice President Spiro Agnew was forced to resign before Nixon. Those were the days.

Then they got Jerry Ford to be vice president, but after that Nixon had to resign and again we had no vice president.

Seems like they Hoodwinked Nelson Rockefeller for something in there at that point.

But I do remember that our own Kansas Senator Bob Dole ran with Jerry Ford as vice president. Needless to say that duo didn't go anywhere.
