Monkey
I'm surprised the studios haven't decided to remake this one since it involves a favorite Hollywood plot - ghosts returning to help/haunt humans - plus it was a huge hit.
tracey65k
If someone did remake it, who would (or could) replac Cary Grant and Connie Bennet? Not to mention Roland Young? And wasn't it a TV show for a while? Tracey
Ktrek
Interesting that this topic would come up because until about a month ago I never knew of the 1950s TV series and in a Leo G. Carroll thread someone had mentioned it. I causally made reference to wishing I could see it and a couple days later I was working out a trade for the show. I think I got 53 episodes on 11 DVDs. Anyway, the show had the following: Anne Jeffreys .... Marion Kerby Robert Sterling .... George Kerby Leo G. Carroll .... Cosmo Topper Lee Patrick .... Henrietta Topper Thurston Hall .... Mr. Schuyler Buck .... Neil (the dog) None of the cast, with the exception of Carroll, were all that great of actors but the TV show has a lightheartedness that is fun for a 50s show. A second Topper series ran in the late 70s but was unsuccessful. By far the most interesting version is the Cary Grant one. I rather hope they never do remake it but I'm sure if someone put their mind to it they could find a way to contemporize the concept. The ghosts would probably be something more like something you would see on X-Files though if it was made today. Kevin Do you like to discuss classic movies? PaJoe
The Topper movies were good, even without Cary Grant, and the show was interesting enough as well. I think my favorite was Topper Returns with Eddie "Rochester" Anderson and his big eyes as he suspects something is wrong and eventually fulfills his warning "there is going to be some running going on" . Hollywood could do a successful remake of Topper - but chances are they would change it so much it would be another flop like the Honeymooners. Everyone loves the antics of friendly ghosts and these movies had it all. Topper was one of the first wish lists in our Tivos, it took a few years but within the last year TCM ran the three movies. We had already purchased the first two on DVD.
CineSage
Yeah, when? The St Bernard from TURNER AND HOOCH has been unemployed for years, and it's about time he had work.
deeanddaisy666
Yes, Brad Pitt could play George and the chick with the big butt could play Marion. And hey, Flavor Flav could play Cosmo! Let's see, maybe Anna Nicole Smith could be Mrs. Topper. In case you didn't know.....that was sarcasm. No, Topper could not be redone. Not ever, not in this century. MattHelm
I certainly hope they do remake this gem. Just think of all the possibilities and improvements they could come up with now, and all the CGI hijinks you could shake a stick at!
TerryConner
The answer to this question is YES!
