msladysoul
Okay, I need some expert help. If anyone know about fashions of the 1940's, help me out please. Okay, here goes! What did women wear on their arms, it looked like gloves but I don't think their called gloves, their handless and fingerless gloves, it was something wore on the arms. Billie Holiday wore them to hide her needle marks but other women wore them with their gowns and dresses. What are they called, I tried searching by calling them gloves but obviously there's another name.
FredCDobbs
I did a little searching on Google, and all I can find them called now is "handless gloves." http://www.theglamorouswoman.com/FG8GL.html But they might have originally had another name, maybe a French name. daddysprimadonna
I think they're called "mitts". I know that long evening gloves are also called "opera gloves", so perhaps the long fingerless gloves(I usually see them in lace) might be "opera mitts" ? FredCDobbs
Here they are called ?gauntlets?: http://www.onlygloves.com/wedding_bridal_gloves3.htm But most of the glove websites call them ?handless? opera gloves. The long part is the ?gauntlet?. A ?mousquetaire? is a kind with fingers but with an extra button at the wrist or palm that allows a lady to slip her fingers out of the glove but without removing the whole long gauntlet part.
