gwtwbooklover
I once saw a movie when I was young that I have never forgotten atleast the story line-the title eludes me though please help. I saw it on HBO sometime between 1981 and 1984 it was based on a true story. It was about a woman who is in a horrific car accident. She survives but is terribly disfigured about her face. Her accident changes her life in numbers of ways like her marriage. There is a scene where she has to suck food thru a straw due to the damage to her lips in a restaurant and the husband can't seem to cope he is embarassed. I think the lady was in the military or some line of work that required the wearing of a uniform-I think she was a nurse or affiliated with the medical field because she said" I knew I was dying because my nailbeds were turning blue" and seemed versed in the medical procedures happening to her. Which leads to the doctor who if he didn't save her life he tried to reconstruct her face and he performed numerous surgeries. One scene I remember is the subject of her lips and what he propsed to fix them. The doctor was a married man and I remember he was unhappy he lamented that all his wife thought life was a hundred dollar hairdo. I also remember the doctor's friend chastises him when he's trying to reconstruct this woman's face that he was working, creating his own Pygmalion. The doctor and the patient become very close and fall in love. The writing at the end said they toured the country encouraging the work of helping people who have been disfigured. Any information would be greatly appreciated....gwtwbooklover

gwtwbooklover
Thanks Mongo for the information-I haven't been on lately since our internet connection has been iffy lately. Man it is hurting my eyes to cast them to the right to see if that dreaded little x comes up to let me know I've been kicked off the internet-how maddening. Thanks again.
