TheExtraGirl
My guide came seriously late in December, too. Usually it arrives in the middle of the month. Anyway, they're good about the replacements - it'll get to you. From one serious RM fan to another, it's worth the wait.

cb159
count me in too! and what a dancer !
ayresorchids
Have you noticed that, especially in his early films, Bob dances in a unique style? I don't know how well I'll be able to explain this, but... Instead of his clasping his partner's right hand so that it is lying in his, with their elbows down, he has his left arm bent upward and clasps her hand from above. Very stylish. An early 1930s thing, I guess?
vallo13
Ayres,I noticed that also with Robert Montgomery if my folks where alive they would have known that dance style. And watch the way Dana Andrews drinks in The Best years of our Lives and Laura his elbow is straight out like he's saluting. Strange things indeed... vallo
violaviolet
My guide came in the day after I started this thread. And you were right on the money ExtraGirl, it was definitely worth the wait.
violaviolet
And did you hear him in Untamed. Quite a crooner too.
TheExtraGirl
While we're at it, he was a great whistler! Good examples of it in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Private Lives.
ayresorchids
AND a great eyebrow-waggler (hope you saw The Man in Possession). *Sigh*
bmovielover
William Powell in the THIN MAN drinks the same way. Must be the 1930's style.
violaviolet
oh yes. he also does a nifty job of it in night must fall.
violaviolet
The Man In Possession is one of my favorite pre-codes. Irene Purcell's ripped up nightgown is priceless.
ayresorchids
> William Powell in the THIN MAN drinks the same way. > Must be the 1930's style. Sort of like that elbows-crooked-toward-front thing that chorus girls do in early '30s musicals. Very unnatural, but somehow cool.
TheExtraGirl
Eyebrow waggler! This has me intrigued. I haven't seen The Man in Possession since TCM aired it last time over the summer, but I recorded it this time around. Will have to give it another look...I do remember the torn nightie though...
ayresorchids
Well maybe "waggler" is an exaggeration. It's not Groucho-like--just sort of a jump of the eyebrow that is very suggestive/mischievous/adorable. As in TPIP, when the sheriff tells Irene Purcell that he hopes his assistant gave her satisfaction!
johnnyweekes70
Rutger Hauer does the eyebrow thing best. Depardieu's a close second. Then Roger Moore, William Powell, and Bob Montgomery. One of the twerps on Sex and the City does it as well but he doesn't really count compared to the great supercilious eyebrow wagglers.
