bansi4
The lovely red-haired actress from Scotland has died at age 80. Although she mae only 6 films she will be remembered as the doomed ballerina Victoria Page in "The Red Shoes" (1948) . She was the wife of write Ludovic Kennedy since 1950 and had 4 children. Miss Shearer gave up ballet at the age of 27 and was last seen on a TV play in 1987. Mongo
feaito
These are bad news, she was a talented beauty and an excellent ballerina. "The Red Shoes" wouldn't have been the same without her, nor "The Story of Three Loves". My deep condolences to her family and may she rest in peace. edgeciff
As I have said on another thread, I sent Shearer a letter with some photos about a dozen or so years ago and she never replied, much to my disappointment. I have a feeling she wanted to forget that part of her life. Of all the actresses that I sent photos to in Europe she was the only one who I did not hear from. Apparently, over the years she has spoken about the bad way in which director Michael Powell treated her while making the film and what this film did to her ballet career. What's puzzeling is that Shearer made two more films for Powell in later years and she did commentary on the wonderful DVD by Criterion. I think there was something magical about her screen presence and The RED SHOES would never have been the same without Moira Shearer. Its unfortunate that Shearer never danced opposite Fred Astaire in ROYAL WEDDING as Producer Arthur Freed had planned in the early 1950s.
