katyscar11ett
Being the programmer, you should know the answer to my question. Why does the Canadian audience have to have a different schedule? Is it because of the *&^%^**(*#$@ CRTC (Canadian Radio and Television Commission) and their "Canadian content" rule that a certain amount of the programming shown HAS to contain Canadian content? Why, oh why, can't they leave people alone?!! I've tried to compare schedules to see if the replaced movies have Canadian actors in them.......but it isn't always easy to tell if the actors are people who are quite unknown (sometimes it's easy to tell, but not always). This question has been bothering me from the onset and I'd sure appreciate a knowledgable answer. Thank you very much. Either way, US or Canadian, TCM is the best and can't be beat! Thanks for the great quality you provide.
bollywood101
This came up in another thread. Substitutions seem to be mostly (if not always) for movies TCM has leased from outside sources and to which the license may not give them Canadian broadcasting rights. I think the last two specimens noted were Sabrina and Sunset Blvd, neither of which played on the Canadian feed. Both movies were licensed from Paramount, so the nature of the license would dictate whether they can be shown on TCM in Canada, where they may be (in one of the cases, apparently is) leased to another channel. katyscar11ett
Thanks for posting that information, bollywood. That makes total sense. I'll bet some of those films are licensed to play in Canada by Family Channel (as well as others maybe). FC is where I used to watch classics before I got my dish years ago. I wonder how the CRTC managed to keep its nose out of this one since they like to dictate so well. I'm just glad they did!
