Hello, I'm new here and I like your lists.  I have one as well for 1957, when I was generally sitting in the kiddie section (remember those?), but was often taken by my parents to first run features as well, since I was such a well-behaved little girl as long as you took me to the candy counter first:

1.  Desk Set (no surprise there)

2.  The Incredible Shrinking Man

3.  The Seventh Seal

4.  Fear Strikes Out

5.  Nights of Cabiria

6.  12 Angry Men

7.  Bridge on the River Kwai

8.  Trooper Hook

9.  The Badge of Marshal Brennan

10. What's Opera, Doc?

Worst film of 1957:

Old Yeller - not that it's a bad movie, but because it emotionally scarred the Mouseketeer generation.

I agree, and I'll try to explain my list process, although it won't be very logical.

When choosing my Top Ten Favorites, it is purely subjective. That's the chief reason behind using the word "Favorite" rather than "Best". I know from an objective standpoint that House on Haunted Hill, which is in my Top Ten, is not as well-made as, say, Ballad of a Soldier, which is in my runner-ups list. But I prefer HoHH anyway.

Now on the "Worst" list, I try to be more objective, as in, which movies fail to measure up in the technical or "artistic" departments. That doesn't mean I don't find the movies subjectively entertaining, though. In fact, there are some movies on my "Worst" lists that I would rather watch than those on my runner-ups lists, or even some years' Top Ten.

Like I said, it isn't logical, nor is it consistent, but that's the way I've been doing it.

Yes, I now see Letter Never Sent is a 1960 release.  A Touch of Larceny needs a bit more research.  The imdb has it as a February 1960 release in London but wikipedia distinctly says December 1959, London.  When doing a google search half of the sites list it as 1959 and the other half 1960.  It was up for the 1961 BAFTA Awards for films generally released in 1960 but this could just be a case of the producers not entering the film until the following year as awards screenings are off and running by December.  I have not been able to find any original London paper reviews for it which might tell the tale.

I'm going to be going back in my movie watching to catch up on stuff from earlier years that I have compiled or gained access to, so it will be a few weeks probably before I move on to 1960. I'll delay continuing this thread until I've finished with my 1960 stuff, which could be as long as a month from now.
