ayresorchids
Well, I wanted to give others a chance, but as it hasn't yet been guessed, I'll name him: Fred Astaire. He appears as himself in Dancing Lady, with Joan Crawford and Clark Gable. He wears a turtleneck in his first scene and does indeed look very thin. I knew about his real verdict from reading a letter he wrote to his sister. It's among Adele Astaire's papers at Boston University.
MrWriteLA
Correct you are, Ayres. (Which of course I knew you would be.) Next question forthcoming...

MrWriteLA
"House of Frankenstein" "Marie Antoinette" "Fire Over England" "Three Comrades" Each of the above features a pair of actors who at one time or another had played the same famous villain. Who are the actors and who is the villain?
SUSAN
Lionel Atwill and George Zucco, they both played Sherlock Holmes' nemesis, Prof. Moriarty.
MrWriteLA
Very good! But they're not in all the titles listed. Who are the other Moriartys?

SUSAN
I think I've got it...Laurence Olivier, The Seven Percent Solution!
MrWriteLA
You're still one Moriarty short... (He's not as well known as the others. Hint: He's in the Olivier movie.)
SUSAN
I concede. I want to say James Mason, but he played Dr. Watson. You've really rattled my brain! Good question!
MrWriteLA
The missing Moriarty was Lyn Harding, who was in "Fire Over England" with Olivier and was Moriarty twice opposite Arthur Wontner's Sherlock Holmes in "Silver Blaze" and "The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes." Good job, though, Susan!

MrWriteLA
What socially conscious thriller of the 50's featured two contract players who would be teamed in a popular private-eye TV show ten years after?
JackBurley
It wouldn't be The Longest Day which featured Eddie Albert and Robert Wagner, who would later star in the private-eye TV series Switch, would it?
MrWriteLA
No, it wouldn't.
JackBurley
I was afraid of that. Okay, how about Bad Day at Black Rock (1950's, socially concious, thrilling...) which starred Anne Francis with John Ericson; who later co-starred in Honey West in the 1960's?
