BestEra
I keep trying to find the name of a movie that I saw many years ago. It was definitely made between 1935 - 1955 and about all I can remember about it is that it involved a father that got amnesia. At some point, a train was involved. I don't know if he fell off of a train or if he took the train home to see his family after he regained his memory. His family thought he was dead and go on with their lives. Near the end when he finally remembered where his home was, he returned and peered into the window and saw them all laughing and happy. I think they may have been decorating the Christmas tree but I'm not sure about that. Anyway, if I remember correctly, he felt that they didn't need him back in their lives after all the years he had been gone and he left without ever telling them that he was alive. It is a real, real tear-jerker -- one of the few times I ever saw my mother cry (she was watching it with me). I thought it might be ALWAYS IN MY HEART but I watched that a few days ago and that isn't it.
FredCDobbs
That sounds a little like Orson Welles in ?Tomorrow is Forever? (1946). ?Elizabeth and John say good-bye as John leaves to go to war. When the war ends, Elizabeth receives a telegram that her husband has been killed in action. She finds comfort in Harry and they marry. John returns 20 years later, disfigured, with a new identity and an adopted daughter, Margaret. John (Mr. Kesler) and Elizabeth accidentally meet and he learns that he has a son, Drew. John must then decide whether or not to tell her his true identity.? Guest
Maybe it's The Way Of All Flesh 1940 Akim Tamiroff,Gladys George. I never saw it actually I went to TCM database and put Amnesia Christmas but I read the synopsis and it sounds like what you're refering to. BestEra
THE WAY OF ALL FLESH (1940). That's it for sure!!! I can't believe it. I read the whole synopsis and now I remember all of those other parts. For over 30 years I've had that mental image of him peering into the window -- and now the mystery has been solved. MaryS, thank you very much. And I learn something new about TCM's web page every day. I didn't even know they had that feature of key words. Now I'm wondering if TCM will ever have this movie in its line-up.
