coolrob1955
I would be interested to know from others what single movie started your love affair with movies. For me, I think, It was 'Forbidden Planet'. I saw this movie on TV when I was 6 (a long time ago), and it scared the hell out of me, especially the part where the thing, whatever it was is trying to break through the force field. This movie left such an impression on me. I have seen the movie several times since, the dialog is corny, and some of the acting is stiff, but it still hits the spot. After that I was an avid movie fan (it's interesting that movies don't always live up to the way we remember tham). Another film I'm fascinated by is Ken Russel's version of 'The Boyfriend', which most people hate. Maybe I fell in love with the girls (yes, all of 'em). A movie definately not appreciated in it's time. Regards
vallo13
1939's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" I watched from my bedroom through the door as my Mom watched it on The Late Show years ago. When Quasimodo saves Esmeralda from hanging, ( with the music and choir singing) I just got goosebumps and new it's classics from now on.. vallo
movieman1957
The one I remember having an impact on me was "Abandon Ship" with Tyrone Power. I was young but I remember it being a very intense movie to watch.
deeanddaisy666
For me, it was Rodan in the movie theater, and King Kong at home, probably on the late, lamented and wonderful Million Dollar Movie. I cried and cried at the end, and my mother couldn't figure out why I was crying over a giant ape!
constarkel
As a youth growing up in California, one of the rules during summer vacation was NO TV during the day. If my dad ever came home from work and caught us with the TV on ..... Anyway, one day for some reason my mother stayed home from work and decided to watch "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" on "Dialing for Dollars" I think. Well since she was watching it, I did too. I became an instant convert to classic films at that point. A few years later, my parents took me to see "Casablanca" at the "Castro Theater" in San Francisco. That set in place my love for the old movie palaces as well. stoneyburke, I too, get upset at the ending of King Kong.
ayresorchids
Loved watching them even as a wee bairn, but That's Entertainment! really made me sit up and take notice. Though I love all genres, musicals were my first love.
nsallieharding
We had "Dialing For Dollars" also here in Virginia in the Mid 1960's and they always had gangster films and tear jerker's from the 1950's on. My love affair began with TV when I was a 5 year old during the late 1950's. We only received one channel and they would play The Three Stooges, Lassie and Sky Pilot.
