civilization.

this teen-aged ethan crouch creature and it's mother. a going away party that included video of beer pong. this is narcissistic lawlessness laughing in the face of a society with it's deteriorating standards of human behavior. but texas police officials would not have it.
the spirit of justice ain't dead yet for mexican authorities nabbed the two in of all places puerto vallarta. the young crouch creature ain't a gonna give a bad name to cute little iguanas.

no sir!

unfortunately the most the adorable little cherub can get is 120 days in jail. maybe they can do better with the mother. of course locking up his mother ain't no guarantee that young ethan won't get his mind off of speeding and beer pong.

all this because some 'judge' thought ten years probation was sufficient punishment for a teen-ager drunk by three times the legal limit who caused the deaths of four people and the permanent paralysis of a fourth.

cute.

Yeah, that story is upsetting. Makes you lose faith in the justice system completely.

Yes,  that punk should get 10 years,  but of course NipKow assumes those dirty liberals are the reason for this.

But the actual reason the mom was able to get her kid light punishment was because they are rich.   The rich getting away with things, not having to serve in the military,  cheating on their taxes and doing a lot of other anti-American things is a conservative value.

some rich conservative americans, I grant you...but not the vast majority of common conservative american humanity.

and it is just as much true that rich hollywood celebs get their own off in the SoCal courts as well.

besides, my basic assertion is that it is liberal lawyers and judges who are the ones who have so weakened our criminal justice laws that so facilitates these kinds of ridiculously lenient sentences being meted out in the first place and not conservative jurisprudence.

conservative jurisprudence still does and continues to be guided by the age-old principle of crime AND punishment and it is liberals who have questioned that.

Funny but when it comes to negative things conservative do you are always quick to say SOME, but when it comes to liberals you always say or imply ALL.

True sign of a misguided partisan.

If the mother supplied alcohol to a teenager even if it's her own son, she needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  Some moms are simply disgusting.

On the other hand, if the teenager got slept on, 4 lives saved and one person suffering could had been avoided.

Most people are calling this a case of "affluenza", the sick sense of entitlement the children of the affluent(which conservatives LOVE sucking up to) seem to have.

Bad parenting is all it is.

As far as his punishment, the laws and guidelines were long in place before his little esccapade, and not neccesarily "liberal" in origin to begin with.

It also doesn't MATTER if the judge is conservative, liberal or whatever.  The LAW is in place, and the guidelines set before him.  He CANNOT, based on his PERSONAL feelings dispatch any kind of "justice" HE sees fit.  THAT would be tantamount to legislating from the bench, which I thought conservatives were strictly AGAINST!

Texas is and has always been one of the most conservative states in the nation.  It's laws reflect that.  At one time had the highest execution rate in nation.

In most states, judges have tremendous latitude in how they interpret the law, sentencing guidelines, etc.  The judge in this case made the determination of jail vs. probation.

Judge Jean Hudson Boyd is a Republican and was elected judge in heavily Republican/conservative Texas.   The decision for probation had ZERO to do with liberalism, moderates, Democrats, etc.

Thanks for providing this info since I wondered about the background of the judge.   Most likely the mom promised to provide funds to the judge in the next election in exchange for no jail time for her son.     So NipKow is all wet yet again.

In the news, they said he was coddled by his mom.  A stupid excuse.

Maybe it's a gut feeling but something about these 2 are creeping me out.

I have read analysis that plea resulting in probation was compromise which was best for all concerned. Trial would have been long and complicated. There were issues which well-funded defense might have used to gain exoneration.

Conviction with probation allowed victim and relatives of victims to immediately begin civil lawsuits.

I believe it was understood by judge and prosecutor that he would surely violate probation at some point. Such violations can be prosecuted with no regard for any issues which might have been raised in original trial. It is circuitous route to justice but it was all that was reasonably available.

If the judge and prosecutor were fairly certain he would violate probation at some point he should have been placed under adult probation from the start.     That will now occur but since he only violated juvenile probation the penalties for a violation are highly restricted.
