constarkel
In "The Last Picture Show" during the naked pool party scene, what is the name of the song that was playing on the record player when Cybil Shepherd was stripping on the diving board? That song needs to be had!

constarkel
Thanks lzcutter, I did an exhaustive search and found that it was none other than Phil Harris's "The Thing". Phil Harris, it is interesting to note, was married to Alice Faye, the movie actress. I ended up having to run the credits at the end of the movie where they just list the performers, but not the song... and then head over to Amazon and start listening to samples. I was very lucky to find it so quickly. That movie has some really good music on it and its unfortunate that they only chose to include the more popular songs on the soundtrack. lzcutter
I liked that all the music is heard in the background on radios and hi-fi steros. Those were the days. Phil Harris used to play Vegas when I was a kid. I think Alice Faye outlived him.
constarkel
Yes, and Bogdanovich did the same thing with Paper Moon. I don't think that anyone had done that before him. I can't stand modern country music, but I sure love that old stuff. I remember listening to my dad's old Hank Williams and Johnnie Ray 78's as a kid. ayresorchids
The cabbie who drove me to the airport in Palm Springs after a business trip said that he often used to drive Phil and Alice around when they were there. He'd deliver their laundry to their home, and they'd have him come right in and hang it in the closet, then join them for a cuppa. The driver also said that Alice thought Tyrone Power had the most beautiful nose in show biz--"If only I'd had his nose," she'd say!
