Oh April, what are you doing to me - ha?! Those pics are great. I'm such a sucker for anything from *The Westerner*. Theresa and I have the same book that is mostly pics from old movies and we both bought it just b/c it had a full page of that pic of Gary on the horse :) . I tell ya, great minds think alike.

I just got cracked up too b/c a couple days ago me and Theresa were talking and she was saying something about how she and Kim both sneeze when they get flustered or something like that, I don't remember exactly what it was but it pertained to Gary. Anyway after seeing those pics I sneezed 3 times in a row!!!! I nearly busted out laughing.

I really don't understand why movies that are already out on dvd get re-released, especially when there is no change to the product. *Pride of the Yankees* is a good example. It's been out on dvd for a good while and then this year they re-released it for it's 65th anniversary. I was excited b/c I thought maybe it would include some extras, like a bio of Lou Gehrig or something. Instead it was the same exact content as the dvd already out just with different cover art. Why bother!?! Instead why not release something that's not already available?

I have read on the Home Theater Forum that more classic movies are scheduled to be released in high definition formats in '08 and '09, although they did not list any specific titles. I don't have an HD/Blu-Ray player yet b/c I'm waiting until the format wars are over, but I really hope that some of Gary's movies will eventually be given the hi-def treatment.

Hi Theresa, yet another great picture that I have never seen on Gary Cooper. Thanks for posting.

I just got the new box set on the three Stooges with the spoof of Operator 13 titled Uncivil Warriors filmed in 1935 with Moe Larry and Curly as Operators 12, 14 and 15. The picture quality on this short was simply amazing and I have never seen anything filmed in the 30's look as good. It had a perfectly clean picture with amazing sharpness and perfect brightness and contrast. I would say it looked as good as Casablanca for picture quality.

I signed up for a free month of 2 day free shipping at Amazon and dvd's are arriving in one day with this plan. If I don't cancel out after a month, it will be 79 dollars for the next year. I haven't decided if it will be worth it yet, but am sure it would be worth it if all those rumored Gary Cooper releases get released next spring. It is very nice to get released dvd's the same day as they are released in the mail since most brick and mortor stores don't carry anything anymore that I would buy.

LOLOL, That's too funny!

And no, it's not when I'm flustered, it's when I get too excited or giddy about something romantic. Like if I'm dreaming about Gary kissing a woman with his hands wrapped tightly around her waist, holding onto her as if protecting her from -- I can't think about it without sneezing! I just sneezed twice! LOL.

Oh well, I know it's weird but I can't help it. Maybe you have it after all, Angie! :D

Well it is just a less than 20 min three stooges short and not a movie or anything and it does not have any reference to Gary Cooper other than the fact that it was made a year after Operator 13 and Moe Larry and Curley are Operators 12, 14, 15. It is a comedy short that is on the same level as all of their comedy shorts from the 30's which in my opinion were their best. The deal for the restored from High Definition prints 19 shorts on Amazon is not very bad at all as it was only 16.99.

As for the print quality I have seen and own a great many 30's movies on dvd and the new three Stooges mastered from high def shorts are of better print quality than anything released on Gary Cooper, carole Lombard and anything else I have seen to date. It is very close to the last high definition transfer to dvd of Casablanca for perfect picture. I have not watched many of them yet but there is not even the smallest minute blemish to the print on Uncivil Warriors. I was blown away by the picture quality. I have many of the three stooges shorts that were released already by Colombia over the years and these prints are at least a hundred times better. I only wish that Gary's movies were treated with this kind of attention. There are infact a great many blemishes present on the dvd Sergeant York enenthough it was suppose to be completly restored. Sergeant York looked good but seemed to have several instances of scratches and dust spots on the print. The new three stooges release from what I have seen is perfect and free from every single blemish and almost has a 3D look as to how sharp the picture is.

I really like the Three Stooges too, my dad got me interested in them when I was a kid. It's cool too that the picture quality is so good. I'm really excited for more classic movie hi-def releases in the coming years.

Here's the Clara Bow video I made that I was telling y'all about. I finally got it uploaded if y'all want to watch it.

The first three years of Three Stooges shorts are not out on Hi Def HD or BlueRay but were restored in high def and then this master was used to bring it down to dvd quality for the release. The Original Twilight Zone's and many of Gary Cooper's movies are in fact on Hi Definition masters. They just have not been released in HD or BlueRay yet. In fact I know that They Came to Cordura is sitting somewhere on a High Definition master as Sony and Columbia are storing everything they release on Hi Definition masters in their vaults. They just down sample to regular DVD format from the HD masters. This way I guess they won't have to go back and convert the movie to HD sometime down the road. I would think that WB, Universial and MGM/Fox all do the same thing. Most of the classic movies are in fact in HD format but they just haven't been released in HD yet. The original Star Trek was like this as all the season sets were stored on high definition format and now they are actually coming out to the public in this format. I am not one that is too thrilled about the High Def format as I think the standard dvd format is very good particularly when is properly restored and down sampled from a high def master print. I don't watch many new movies and in fact watch more 4:3 movies than widescreen one's so I am happy with my 36" TV and won't be upgrading to widescreen anytime soon.

I will check out your video when I can as unlike you youtube is blcoked where I am at work.

Here's what an amazon reviewer had to say about it and why I have been so excited for them to come out. I have seen them and do know everything he says about this release is true.

Bonified viewed review of DVD set, July 12, 2007

By stooged and confused

THIS IS AN ACTUAL VIEWED, IN FULL, REVIEW FROM AN ADVANCED COPY OF THE NEW DVD SET I RECEIVED FROM SONY PICTURES ON 10/18/07:

To Stooge or not to Stooge, that is the question. For almost a decade since Sony began issuing The Three Stooges shorts on DVD, fans have been asking when chronological ordered sets would be released. During the last nine years, previous compilations have been a mixed bag of quality prints; odd pairings of titles; ill fated "themed" discs, and a color/B&W series. Some shorts were duplicated several times, while other films never saw the light of day. The number of shorts appearing on each disc steadily decreased. If you've felt burned by previous DVD releases that had splices, missing dialogue or deleted scenes, worry not.

Sony got the message. The Three Stooges Collection 1934-1936 is the first in a series of DVD's that presents the shorts in their original release order. For ardent fans, it's a knucklehead's dream. For the beginner, it is the proper way to be introduced to the legendary trio. Each short has been restored to its original running time.

For those of you not familiar with the history of the Three Stooges, they made more films than any comedy team. A total of 190 shorts (or two reelers) and five starring feature films were produced from 1934 through 1965 at Columbia Pictures. They hold the record for the longest running studio association in Hollywood history. This was no accident. Simply put, The Three Stooges are funny. They produced a bunch of classic episodes. Of course, with 190 titles, there are some lemons in the barrel. However, with the first set of chronological shorts, each one has plenty of Stooge brilliance. Even their first short, "Woman Haters", an oddity done in rhythm, has enough mayhem to rise it above the "musical novelty" that it was originally billed.

The Stooges' career was drenched in irony. During their heyday of appearing in the classic short films, the Stooges longed to make feature length movies, fearing that the shorts were holding them back. But it was the Columbia shorts that kept them alive. Because of their running time (between 16-18 minutes), The Three Stooges shorts were like mini sitcoms. They weren't bogged down with dated musical numbers and gooey romantic sub plots like features starring Abbott and Costello and The Marx Brothers, for example. The pacing was that of animated cartoons and the Stooges were human cartoon characters. The short films they made 70+ years ago fit surprisingly well in today's video game generation of quick paced action, fast edits and short attention spans.

The other alleged nail in their career coffin was television. When the shorts market dried up in theatres due to the popularity of TV, the Stooges thought they were finished. Their backlog of films were sold in syndication and millions of people have been exposed to them ever since, therefore rescuing them from obscurity and cementing them as pop culture icons.

The first 19 of these episodes are featured in this collection. But they don't look like they did on TV. Sony has lovingly restored each short to its original brilliance and the results are nothing short of spectacular. The quality of the restoration is on par with that of Disney, the Looney Tunes series and classic films like "Wizard Of Oz", "Casablanca", and "Singin' In The Rain."

I've seen each of these Curly shorts more times than I should admit to, and watching these newly mastered films is like seeing them for the first time. Gone are the hairline scratches, dust, pops and other debris commonly found on TV and previous VHS and DVD prints. The black and white resolution is rich and some of the shorts look like they have a glossy finish to them. On "Three Little Pigskins", the picture is so clear at times, I can see the beauty parlor sign behind the boys and read that a polish and fingerwave cost 79 cents. The picture quality is that pristine! Those glorious sound effects jump from my speakers. The oldest film on the set is 73 years, and it looks beautiful on a widescreen HD TV.

So, if you're still asking yourself the question: to Stooge or not to Stooge, the answer should be as predictable as a slap from Moe. Why, Soitinly!

After getting the three stooges box set a few days ago, I decided to order today both box sets of W.C. Fields at amazon as they are having half price on all Universial classic box sets right now and picked them up for 28 dollars each. I thought about getting the Marx Brothers but the picture quality looked horrible on those. I would say that Universial must be doing very bad on sales for classic movies with all the sales on their sets. I don't look to see anything that I would be interested in coming out from them next year including the rumored Gary Cooper box set that was suppose to come out next spring. Their first box set on him with five movies is selling for only 13 dollars right now the price of a single movie and probably still is not selling any units. The same is the case for Cary Grant, and all the Glamor collections. Paramount movies are by far my favorite classic movie line and I own all of the one's mentioned above. I would say the 30's is in fact my favorite decade for movies. I am ordering all 30's movies at this point. My last one that I just ordered with WC Fields is some movie titled Animal Kingdom with Ann Harding. I have never seen the movie but it was stated it is a screwball comedy, it has Ann Harding in it and the print is suppose to be incredable despite the fact that it was released by Alpha Video. I suppose for the next year or more my full concentration will be in buying and recording 30's movies by Gable, Harlow, Lombard ect with my most anticapted movie being Strange Cargo with Gable and Crawford in it that will be on TCM on 1/11/08 and out on dvd in February. I would also like to see and record someday the Ronald Colman movie with Ann Harding Condemned from 1929.

I'm leaning more towards the '30s being my fave movie decade too. I took the day off today (I always do the day after Halloween b/c I like to stay up late and watch movies :) ) and I watched a bunch of the Torchy Blane movies with Glenda Farrell on TCM and they were real cute. She's a fast talking wise crackin' reporter and she was especially good at playing those kinds of roles. I especially like the realy early 30's films ('30-'33) as the whole style of movies was changing as everyone had fully embraced talking pics around 1929. They're interesting technically as they tried new things and new acting styles.

I have an Alpha Video dvd that has a bunch of episodes from the Commando Cody serials and the picture and audio quality is great so you may get lucky with that one.

With that said I just went an ordered a screwball comedy from 1942 with Mary Astor and Claudette Colbert. Well anyway it is suppose to be the last of the screwball comedies. I also ordered along with it some Carole Lombard screwball comedy titled Twentieth Century, Dodsworth, and another screwball comedy with actors and actresses I have never heard of from 1932 titled Trouble in Paradise. I personally wouldn't mind collecting all of the movies from the 30's that are not gangster movies. That decade had hundreds of screwball comedies and many romantic movies in it that I wouldn't mind collecting and watching them all. I watched another Clark Gable and Jean Harlow killer movie last night titled China Seas. I don't think those two made any bad movies in the 30's. I am finding that contrary to the popular notion Clark Gable made many truely great movies in the 30's that were every bit as good as Gone with the Wind if not better.
