coopsgirl
Thanks! I really would like to be able to take some of the pics I have of Gary, Clara, the Astros, and different places I?ve been and make neat wallpapers with them and I just haven?t been able to figure out how. That paint.net stuff works okay but I can?t figure out how to make them actual desktop size or use some of the other neat effects it has. The help menus aren?t very helpful, at least not to me. You can probably do more with Photoshop (even the cheap version which is what I would get).
MissGoddess
It's pretty amazing what people can do with Photoshop. I know Beda (PKTrekGirl) has created some marvelous desktops but I'm not sure what program she uses.
JackFavell
Is it wrong to ask if I could copy that for my desktop?
coopsgirl
No, it's not wrong. Copy away . If I post anything like that feel free to do whatever you want with it. I'm really hoping I can either better figure out the software I have or eventually get photoshop and then I can make even better ones.
JackFavell
I already copied it (sheepish grin)
coopsgirl
Hi Klat29! I haven't seen the version of *General Died at Dawn* you described but if there was a scene where Madeleine Carroll was talking Gary into getting on the train, the movie would make much more sense. It really bothers me that he is explicitly told not to take the train and then he does and we get no explanation as to why he decided to do that. Since she doesn't seem surprised to see him when he pops out of her closet in her train compartment, we can assume they have met. It would make more sense though and flow a little better if we saw them meeting earlier, or if there was a reference to it during that scene on the train. I still like the movie, but that bothers me. CoopfanDan
Amazon review of The General Died at Dawn: "Be forewarned: this otherwise excellent set of disks is marred by an INCOMPLETE PRINT of "The General Died at Dawn", which makes nonsense of the meeting between the Cooper & Carrol characters. Their whole first scene, where they first meet, is MISSING. The print cuts from her argument with her father re ensnaring Cooper to join her on the train, to her boarding the train the following day and being confronted by Cooper in her cabin, who embraces her passionately and declares he is nuts about her. I suggest prospective buyers lay seige to Universal, demanding they re-issue the set. Or boycott the collection. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?"
coopsgirl
Well that explains a lot. It?s strange that they would put out in incomplete version unless there was no existing print of the whole thing which is a possibility. Of course it could also have just been incompetence on their part. Who knows.
CoopfanDan
I haven't seen the VHS version of this movie but am curious to know if that scene was on it now. I don't think it is ever shown on TV as it is an old Paramount title now owned by Universial. http://www.amazon.com/General-Died-Dawn-Philip-Ahn/dp/630123216X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=video&qid=1210193549&sr=1-1 Also, I would just like to wish Gary Cooper a Happy Birthday today
CoopsGal
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY!! Whew, I made it. Ya' know, I was doubting if I'd get the chance to log in today and wish Gary a happy birthday. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Be careful now. Ugh, **Long, annoyed sigh with a sarcastic roll of the eyes** Why is *he* here? I thought he promised us lack of presence... I sense a crack on wordplay with that last one, Scott. Don't be unoriginal
coopsgirl
Hiya sis, glad you made it! Here's a couple more pics I was playing around with using the paint.net software.
CoopsGal
I love the feathered look of that Melody Jones image, Angie! Gives it a faraway sense; as if it was captured right out of a dream....Theresa's dream I never get tired of seeing those hands. **Swoons** Such strength and gentleness... coopsgirl
His hand looks so huge in that pic, like he could just snap little Fay?s arm right off. Here?s the schedule for August when TCM does their Summer Under the Stars thing. Gary doesn?t have a day this year but I know Theresa will be happy to see that the 14th is for Greer Garson and they are showing a lot of good ones. Also on the 19th they are showing a bunch of Barbara Stanwyck?s movies that I don?t have. It looks like they are going with a completely different bunch than last year with also some lesser name stars (who were big in their day but not as much today) and that?s cool. http://www.tcm.com/schedule/month/?cid=&oid=8/1/2008
FrankGrimes
More Greer Garson?! Ohhhhh, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm someone who likes "Summer Under the Stars" because it seems as if TCM programmer reaches deeper into the catolog for some titles that haven't been airing with great regularity and I already see that with this year's "Summer Under the Stars." My favorite days are Ava Gardner, Barbara Stanwyck, Rita Hayworth, Kim Novak, Ingrid Bergman, Janet Leigh, Peter Lorre, and Richard Widmark. I'm gonna make sure to run out of tapes on Greer's day. I don't have Saratoga Trunk on tape. There's a Linda Darnell film on the schedule!
butterscotchgreer
*Hiya sis, glad you made it! coopsgirl
*More Greer Garson?! Ohhhhh, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* Yeah it's a real shame they couldn't show Grace Kelly that day. Instead they picked someone with actual acting ability. What were they thinking?! I loooooove *Saratoga Trunk*. It would be nice to see that one get a dvd release. Gary and Ingrid were a really great pair and their chemistry just sizzles right off the screen. I know some of the characters freak people out (Dan, Theresa I?m talking to you two ), but I love it. It?s a fun, quirky film and Gary was perfectly suited to play Clint Maroon (who is from Texas, yet another reason to love this film!). I?m most excited about Barbara?s day since they are showing several films I?ve never seen.
MissGoddess
I haven't peeped at the schedule yet but I'm glad Ava, Kim and Barbara get a day. I wasn't able to wrestle control of the remote much yesterday, there was a game. However, I just tuned into TCM and they're playing TASK FORCE! So we get him two mornings in a row. coopsgirl
Oh April, I'm so jealous!! We don't have anything like that where I work . Heck, they won't even let me put the Rhapsody music software back on my computer. Since we got our new PC's, the IT people are being real particular about what they let us put on them. I listen to music all day long and this really stinks!! I have my mp3 player thank goodness but it only holds around 2,000 songs and there are over one million available on Rhapsody. At least I get to move to a window cube soon (hopefully next month) so that's something . Theresa: I knew you'd like that pic! The Paramount's website has a thing up saying their classic summer film series schedule is coming soon . They don't say when but it can't be too much longer. I think my head is about to explode waiting to see if they're showing any of Gary's films this year.

It was a really nice one too . I was snuggled up next to him in this big oversized chair and he was holding me real close. Is that enough, or should I rub it in some more . I better watch out and not have any dreams about him wearing overalls or I really will be in trouble!!!
