MissGoddess
Did I miss this? Did you all know Gary is supposedly getting a stamp next year??? http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?messageID=8149687#8149687
coopsgirl
John told me a few months ago that Gary was getting a stamp next year and that he saw it and it's beautiful. He said his eyes really jump out at you. I'm sure I posted it but it may have gotten lost in the shuffle. No pics are out of it yet though so we'll just have to wait. I'm gonna buy a ton of them (okay maybe not an actual ton, but a lot of them).

I hope they do the debut here in NYC and that Maria will be there; I will try not to miss that.

CoopfanDan
I just found a radio interview with my favorite country singer Jim Reeves where he is asked by Bill Mack in 1961 who his favorite actor and actress were and Jim stated without question Gary Cooper and they talk about him at some length. Reeves even states that Gary was a little out of place in the fountainhead but he still did a wonderful job at it. His favorite actress was Olivia de havilland. The radio interviewer Bill Mack stated that out of the last 9 big country stars that he interviewed, Gary Cooper was chosen 8 out of 9 times when the question was asked who their favorite actor was and thought that it was interesting that all the big country singers were chosing Gary Coooper over all the other actors. This radio interview was recorded in 1961 and may have been recorded before Gary died as they don't speak of his passing. It is around the 7:22 mark for part five of the interview. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQmVmCVmFGo&feature=user
coopsgirl
That's so cool Dan! I know how much you love Jim Reeves and for Gary to be his fave actor is really cool. That's neat too that so many of the country music stars also liked him. I'm from the country and he's my fave so maybe he just especially appeals to us country folks . CoopfanDan
I'm glad you liked my last post Angie. I may have sent the wrong link. Jim was one of the more intelligent country singers from back then and with the whole part 5 interview he was right on the money on what it takes to make it as a movie actor in hollywood. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQmVmCVmFGo

MissGoddess
Is it just me or has anyone noticed how often "Private Screenings" guests have chosen a *Gary Cooper* film for one of their selections? I can't prove it but I have the feeling he's the most represented actor so far. I mean, John Singleton chose TWO Coop films!

There's Coop, and then there's all the other classics.
coopsgirl
*There's Coop, and then there's all the other classics.* That's how I see it . I got this pic from *The Texan* from ebay and I've been looking for a better version of it for nearly two years when I first saw it in a paperback book about him. It was worth the wait :x. BelleLeGrand1
Excuse me if this has been posted elsewhere, or if you are already aware, but Encore Westerns is showing Springfield Rifle tomorrow, 25 Sep. at 12:15PM Eastern. Although it was made the same year as High Noon, it's rarely, if ever shown on TV. This showing is not even mentioned on the Imdb. I know I've never seen it before and I look forward to recording it. I also wish The Hanging Tree would be put out on DVD, or that TCM could show it. Haven't seen it for many years and it's one of my favorite Coop films. MissGoddess
Hi Belle! I am glad Encore has it in their lineup, though I do wish they'd air *Springfield Rifle* in "primetime" so more people could enjoy it, instead of repeating the same movies over and over in that timeslot. While not as strong a story as High Noon, it's enjoyable. I agree about The Hanging Tree, it's practically my favorite of Coop's westerns, along with Man of the West, Garden of Evil and High Noon, yet the only one of his major westerns not to be released here on DVD. A shame.

Senta
Thank you for kind words. I do enjoy travelling, but because of it I have a real mess at home, so today is the first time I got to my scaner. During the summer I purchased quite lot of new Gary pics some of them quite presios to me. I expecially love photos from his early movies. Looking at them you can easily imajine how this movie can look like in the best shape. may be we all live long enough to see them restored and released some day. Here are photos from Man of the Wyoming and His Woman.
Senta
Doomsday is a big favorite of mine - so I feel very happy when I received these two.
Senta
Of course some of these images were posted before while they were listed at e-bay, but I hope this time I post them in better shape scanned from the originals big sise and without watermarks. But I have something completly new, photos that I brought from Paris as these two press photos. On the other side of this one it is said "Gary Cooper starring in a western picture, visits the adjoining set on the studio lot, to meet Gita Hall the new Swedesh import..." We know that western picture is Man of the West. As for sweds it can be said a lot, but better keep silent.
MissGoddess
Hi Vera! lovely, lovely pictures. I think Doomsday and The Virginian (really a transitional talkie, though, wasn't it?) are my favorites of Gary's silents. Good point about how the still photos can make you imagine what these films would look like if they were pristine. Sigh. I love ANY photo from *Man of the West* so thank you. I can airbrush the Swede out. Ha!
coopsgirl
Great pics! I really like the one from *A Man from Wyoming* with Gary, June and the guy who married them. Most of those I?ve never seen; the one with him and the darts is really cute too. My fave pics of him are from the 20s and 30s usually, and I think that is mostly b/c like you said, it gives us a chance to see what these films looked like when they were new. I just watched *Doomsday* again a couple days ago and it really is just too cute. By this point, he must have well been over the anxiety he had the year before in ?27 about doing romantic scenes b/c he is fantastic!! The scenes between him and Florence are so natural and real and just beautiful.
