CoopsGal
Angie! I cannot thank you enough for all those movies!!!!!! I am am happy camper, sis. Now I can finally watch some GOOD movies Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Where did you find "Hollywood Boulevard?"
coopsgirl
The movies got their pretty quickly, that's good. They should keep you occupied for quite a while . I found *Hollywood Boulevard* at www.ioffer.com. Man, that place is awesome for finding rare films. It's kind of like ebay except there are no auctions, just people buying, selling, and trading stuff. The prices are usually pretty cheap too. I've gotten several hard to find movies there over the past few weeks. Gary is only in that one very briefly though sitting at a bar. Still, he's in it so it's cool . coopsgirl
I would say for *Hollywood Boulevard* the quality is fair. I have much worse. I also bought the complete *Torchy Blane* series and they are great quality so it just depends.

I'll see about giving that site a try when I get a chance, figure it's still better than not being able to see it at all.

It's a bit worn, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone who's good with Photoshop could make it look like new.
Senta
I'm not able to do this but I'm thinking to bring it to the photo lab whic do restoration of old photos. This one is from Man of the West
Film_Fatale
> {quote:title=Senta wrote:}{quote} > This one is from Man of the West very, very nice. I couldn't help but notice that (as it says at the bottom) this was a Walter Mirisch production. Did you happen to watch the "Private Screenings" they did with him? He was a wonderful producer. Senta
No, I don't watch Private Screenings, even don't know what is all about. Can you explain, please? Here is four stills from Love in the Afternoon - my favorite movie.

He worked with a lot of great directors and actors, after a relatively modest start at the poverty row studio Monogram Pictures, which later on became Allied Artists. But eventually he produced a lot of the movies through the Mirisch Corporation.

Well TCM just showed it, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any repeat showings scheduled.

coopsgirl
I've got a free version of a program that is similar to photoshop and I'll work on that *Plainsman* photo when I get home. It really is a nice pic and it's hard to find good ones from that one.
Senta
I have Photoshop at my comp, but I'm no good in that. I shall send you a big file of this photo by e-mail if you interested to try to make it better.
coopsgirl
Send it to me in an email and I'll see what I can do. I fixed up a portrait of my grandma from late 40s/early 50s with that same software and it came out much better.

Senta
To say truth I'm always worrying when I see no activity on this thread for almost 2 days. I found some interesting articles (may be you have read them already, but what do you think about it). http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/2007/11/man-of-west-why-john-wayne-and-not-gary.html http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/2006/11/of-dallas-and-comfort-westerns-it-must.html http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/2006/01/gary-coopers-stalking-big-game-ive.html http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/2006/02/more-on-gary-cooper-war-years-were.html Some interesting photos there too. coopsgirl
I like the pics you posted, especially the one for *Only the Brave*. Good articles too. I'd already read some of them but I hadn't seen the *Man of the West* one before. I like how he pointed out that Gary's characters didn't usually get real satisfaction out of killing the bad guy. They simply knew it had to be done sometimes when there was no othe way, but they didn't enjoy and it did weigh on their conscience. I've been painting rooms in my house this weekend and I am worn out so I'm calling it a day. I'll have to read through the rest of the articles tomorrow. Senta
I like this photo from Only the Brave too. Unfortunatly I can't afford any more to buy, besides it is not cheap. But to say true it worth the price I bought some photos from this e-bay dealer and they were always exellent - I never regret. From this nice movie I have only one pic and not original one. I think that it is a very little chance that it would be released on DVD. The plot is too naive. But it is so funny in some moments. I always enjoy this movie and always worrying about poor quality. As for articles - they are really good and have some interesting points as one that you have mentioned. Search the archive links on the page and you find more. To do some things at the house is always a mess. I'm pretty busy myself, that's why I can't complete the scanning and posting of the photos. coopsgirl
Great *Only the Brave* pic!! I would love to see a better copy of that but I agree with you, it may be a long shot. It is a cute movie though and one of my faves of his early talkies. I love that scene in the pic you posted where Gary is trying so hard to get caught and Mary Brian just can't turn him in . Here are some pages I scanned from the May 1938 issue of Movie Screen magazine that I just got. They are from *Bluebeard's 8th Wife* and they are yummy .
