FrankGrimes
Hey, Coop's Girl -- Flashes back to the days when she had an intense crush on David Hasselhoff and used to write about how we were going to be married in a little pink Poochie diary. Boy am I glad my tastes have changed!! Now you just write about how you are going to be married to Coop in your little pink Poochie diary, right? Or is it Torgo? Okay, okay. It's Sugarbritches. Don't deny it, because I'll just ask Muskrat Suzie for the truth. I'm sure she knows all about you and your secret loves, Grungy. Whenever you get that blonde out of the water go watch some of Gary's movies and then report back here pronto or I will sic Tor Johnson on you!! I've been receiving quite a few orders around here of late. If I don't get my chores done, I'm gonna be grounded. I guess I better get crackin' or I'll get a crackin'. FrankGrimes
Miss Goddess -- And, there were some pins in my hair.... "Some," huh? Well, I'm glad I could "wheedle" those away. This Cooper fella does possess interesting powers, I must say. I wonder what would happen if I got the other two box sets, too. I better not venture into that territory. By the way, don't you mean, "curlers," Goopy?

coopsgirl
I love it when the dimples are in action - ha!!! Oooh I got another idea for a slideshow using June Christy's version of 'They Can't Take That Away From Me'. Here are lyrics. I'll try to make it this week if I get a chance. There are many many crazy things That will keep me loving you And with your permission May I list a few The way you wear your hat The way you sip your tea The memory of all that No they cant take that away from me The way your smile just beams The way you sing off key (this definitely fits him :x ) The way you haunt my dreams No they cant take that away from me We may never never meet again, on that bumpy road to love But Ill always, always keep the memory of The way you hold your knife The way we danced till three The way you changed my life No they cant take that away from me

MissGoddess
What did you think of Out of the Past, Theresa? I love it right up until the last scenes. I always shut it off before the end. The dialogue is scrumptious throughout.
coopsgirl
Oooh Theresa you're gonna be so jealous. I was just taking a break with my friend at work and we were walking around the capital building and we saw a tall, young, handsome sailor. Ooh wee was he a cutie!! He was wearing the regular white uni with the bell bottom like pants and blue thing around the collar. I wish you could have been here.
butterscotchgreer
ANGIE!!!!! what do you mean you saw a sailor???!!!!! without me!!! im so jealous!! i didnt get to see the handsome tall gorgeously handsome sailor....now im pouting. heehee! april, i thought the same thing you did about Out of the Past. i have watched it more than once, but i always end up shutting it off before it reaches the very end. i was kinda disappointed with it, but i liked the rest of it. coopsgirl
Last week I posted this pic from *Children of Divorce* that was being auctioned off on ebay. Well I did not win it as it sold for $237!!!! I was willing to go as high as $50 b/c it's got Gary, Clara, and Esther Ralston (who I uploaded a bunch of pics for on the database part of the site last night) but over $200 is just crazy. Whoever got it must be a big fan of at least one of them if not all three like me and have money to burn.
coopsgirl
I found a listing of old film and sound recordings as part of the Library of Congress's American Memory collection and I was working my way through it and came to a song called 'Give a man a horse he can ride'. Well my first thought was of the little song they sing in *Cowboy and the Lady* that has that line in it and sure enough it's the same song and the recording is from 1921. I didn't know it was a real song and it's real cute. Here's the link to it if anyone wants to listen. Just click on the icons next to where it says 'listen to this recording'. There are two options for either real audio or a .wav file. http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?papr:144:./temp/~ammem_oIez::

FrankGrimes
Howdy, ButterSweetGoodness -- stop picking on sweet april! Sshhhhhhh. If you want me to cease teasing the Goddess, I will certainly do so. The thing is, my teases will probably head towards others then. You know, others like... you. april, you know he loves you...heehee! I've got two remarks for that comment: "Pardon me while I get the water out of my ear." "Well, that's a ridiculous thing to say." i actually didnt see Out of the Past with my grandmama, although goodness knows she has seen it, and just about every other old movie there is. she never ceases to amaze me....i recorded it the last time it was on TCM, b/c some people suggested it for me. they thought i might like it, and i do, but i still have to say that the ending was a smidge dissappointing frankie. heehee! im not saying that it doesnt have a happy ending, but it just wasnt what i thought it would be. I gotta know what grandmama thinks of Out of the Past. Make sure to ask her the next time your speak with her. I'm still getting over her watching Knight Rider. Now that's interesting. By the way, I was kidding you (surprise) about the "happy ending" in Out of the Past. It's definitely a tragic ending. The only happiness is that the mute boy "saves" Ann (Virginia Huston). That always makes me tear up. Can I borrow one of your tissues? You do have some left, don't you? oh thank you, i just made a new skirt actually.....how did you know? i know....its telescopy! heehee! i love repeating that from one of the thin man movies. I know everything. Translation: I don't know a thing. What kind of material(s) do you use? No, I'm not taking up the hobby. I'm just curious, Gardenia Girl. Hiya, Coopsy's Sailor Girl -- Brilliant photos. Why so brilliant? Because I got to see some pretty ladies with Coop in your pics. Excellent. And, you're right, Rocky is very pretty in that photo you pointed out. Hi, MetsGirl -- Where have you been, young lady? Excellent pics... as always. Good Morning, Miss Goddess (Formal Greeting) -- I've been ordered by the Sweet One to stop teasing you. I will obey her wishes. How long do you think it will last? So will I watch Peter Ibbetson later tonight? Do you wanna spin that Broken Promises wheel or check your magic eight ball? By the way, I've enjoyed the Coop-Audrey pics. Hey, look, I just gave you a genuine compliment. I guess there's always a first time for everything.
coopsgirl
Here's a pic from *Betrayal* (1929) with Esther Ralston and Emil Jannings. Not only was this one Gary's last silent movie but it was also the last silent made by Paramount. Emil did not make the transition to talkies in America b/c of his thick German accent. Also FYI, he was the first person to win a Best Actor Oscar and was also a Nazi supporter according to imdb.com.
butterscotchgreer
FRANKIE! i know you were kidding about the happy ending of Out of the Past, i decided to play along. heehee! my grandmama doesnt mind watching it actually, i am like her in many ways, we both like the same things and all of those things vary with differences. heehee! i know it is hard to believe, but we love watching the suspence movies together a lot, like the loretta young and doris day ones. we like being on the edge of our seats throughout the whole movies, but if they get scarry, im loosing interest, b/c i am not a scarry movie person at all. but i can handle the old sci-fi horrors, b/c they arent too scarry. heehee! yes my grandmama watches Night Rider, we love watching detective shows together too. heehee! no leave that water in your ears....we all love april! i use any fabric that looks pretty to me, or what the pattern says to use. heehee! butterscotchgreer
i watched Peter Ibbetson again last night, and every time i watch it, something catches my eye that i didnt see before. it is just one of those movies where there is a lot going on, and you see something different each time that you find fascinating. i love that! oh he looks so incredibly handsome in this movie and i have watched it so many times that it is now on my top favs of his now. the only disagreemant i have with this movie is that i never liked Ann Harding as the lead actress. she was all wrong for this part. i love her in other movies, but i think they could have chose a much better actress for the part. her voice just didnt sound like it fit with him or the movie,i hope that makes sense. MissGoddess
Niiiice pictures Angie & Metsie! I see Gary has the "tousled" just rolled-out-of-bed hair going on in that still with Esther Ralston. Theresa! Have you peeked at your Greer thread yet? I posted two "temptations" for you and I have a whole lot more coming later. I found a bunch of nice, large photos of Greer. I may have to watch Peter Ibbetson this weekend just so we ALL can be on track and ALL of us comment on it. Which brings me to Mr. Wet Behind the Ears:---I'm so glad you liked, I mean loved, the Gary and Audrey pictures. Tell me, what is it about them that you love? Just testing out this "genuine compliment". Timber!!

coopsgirl
I know exactly what you mean about Ann Harding's voice (big surprise there huh?). It's not irritating like some others but it just doesn't seem to fit. That one is definitely one of my top faves and one I would love to see it on the big screen. It has such beautiful cinematography and I can only imagine how great it would look on the silver screen in a dark theater. I even had a dream once that I saw that one in a theater and it was great . Oh I just got myself tickled b/c I realized that I had a dream about watching a movie that is full of dream sequences - weird!! I watched *Seven Days Leave* again last night. That has got to be one of the truly saddest films ever made and b/c of that it's one I don't watch very often (even though you get to see Gary in a kilt and scrunched up in a tiny bathtub :x ). Beryl Mercer and Gary did such good jobs in that one and are very sweet together. It's such a different movie to in that it's a love story but one between a lonely old lady and a no good orphan soldier who become mother and son, not sweethearts. My favorite part is when he gets into a fight with some other soldiers in a bar and he says he doesn't want to be a soldier anymore and Beryl is just heartbroken b/c she's so proud of her soldier 'son'. Once Gary realizes how much it means to her he keeps on apologizing and saying he doesn't mean it until he finally convinces her. He's so sweet to her in those scenes and you can really see that his character loves her just like she was his real mother.
