And also how about Niven's performance? He demonstrated his powers in that film. Any wonder he won bestactor award 10 or so years later for 'Separate Tables'

As for Meadows, she simple was overlooked as so many more actors then.

And might I put forth the following thought: Reason I do so enjoy these old films is because they had scenes then lasting more than a minute as they do now. I feel they rush through now films for fear the viewer might get bored & lose interest in watching. Fraankly, I'm bored with 90% of features made today. They're just ADULT CARTOONS!

The opening with the "talking house" was beautifully written. And the first thirty minutes of it charmed me completely. It was so touching. "There's no such thing as an empty room" -- what a meaningful line.

Unfortunately, the first half-hour or so was all I got to see, because at that point our good old cable company (Cox) decided to do an early-morning "software upgrade" that shut down the cable signal for a good while. It messed up the DVD-R I was making.

Well, at least it'll be on again in June. And in the daytime, too, so hopefully it won't fall prey to cable company shenanigans next time.
