AND IT SEEMS THERE'S A COBWEB OR TWO UPSTAIRS, MR OSBORNE

In his closing remarks after last night's TCM showing of THE COBWEB, Robert Osborne referred to two of its stars, Deborah Kerr ("It rhymes with star!" read MGM's publicity of the period), and John Kerr.

Osborne pronounced Miss Kerr's name correctly (no surprise), but pronounced Mr Kerr's name the same way (it actually rhymes with fur, and is the far more common way of saying it).

We should be grateful that he didn't have to discuss TV's onetime "Galloping Gourmet, Graham Kerr (it rhymes with bare).

Granted, John Kerr was more a creature of Broadway than Hollywood, and never as famous as Debroah K., but he nevertheless shouldn't be required to say his name like hers in deference.

Do your homework, Mr O (it rhymes with Bart Simpson's d'oh!)!

John Kerr, in a clip which has aired for the past few weeks, confirmed he and Deborah's last names are pronounced the same. (pronunciation rhymes with 'car') I used to think they were different, as well.

I guess Robert O saw the piece ;)
