pktrekgirl
My favorites: 1. Captain Blood 2. The Adventures of Robin Hood 3. The Charge of the Light Brigade 4. The Sea Hawk 5. They Died With Their Boots On 6. Dodge City 7. The Dawn Patrol (note that this order could change next week, depending upon my mood *lol* ) Highly Underrated Flynn Factor Film: Another Dawn Flynn films I've not seen that I most want to see: Gentleman Jim (by several accounts, Flynn's personal favorite role) Too Much, Too Soon Right now, I'm on a personal quest to see all of Flynn's films. I did this with Humphrey Bogart and it took me a couple of years to find them all. I'm hoping to get ahold of all of Errol Flynn's films faster than that. movieman1957
One you don't see too often is "The Prince and The Pauper." Flynn is charming as always.
constarkel
"Another Dawn", Good! I recorded that a few month's ago when they were showing the Kay Francis tribute. I haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet, but I will very soon. My all time favorite has to be "The Adventures of Robin Hood", followed by "Captain Blood" and the "Sea Hawk". nyoka1
Very much looking forward to "Gentleman Jim", which is said to be in the works for eventual DVD release. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
pktrekgirl
constarkel, "Another Dawn" is not a big-budget epic-ish movie like "Robin Hood" or "Captain Blood". But I thought it was a good role for Flynn - I guess you could say 'right up his alley', only on a less grand scale than his biggest films. I wouldn't expect a "Robin Hood" or "Charge of the Light Brigade" or anything, cus you won't get it. But what you *will* get is a film with a decent plot, good acting, and a Flynn role that was very much of the sort he was best at. And IMO, when Flynn was in one of those roles he was best at doing, there was not another actor alive who could do it any better than he. Personally, I like "Another Dawn" quite a bit. constarkel
pktrekgirl, I know what you mean. I like both Errol Flynn and Kay Francis so I am sure that I will like it. I just remember reading some lame review on IMDB that was less than favorable. Maybe they were expecting Robin Hood or Captain Blood. I usually don't worry about those kinds of things though if I like the actors.
CineSage_jr
One you don't see too often is "The Prince and The Pauper." Flynn is charming as always. A film of which I've always been fond, but the DVD needs to be re-mastered from the inferior elements used for the current disc. The good news is that Warner HV is working on a second Flynn box set, and a Michael Curtiz set that'll close the gaps in the Flynn discography. johnnyweekes70
One I haven't seen dusted off for years is The Perfect Specimen. I wonder why.
pktrekgirl
CineSage, I'd heard about the possibility of a second Flynn set (YAY!) I'm hoping for "The Charge of the Light Brigade", "Gentleman Jim", and "The Dawn Patrol" as three of the selections. It's really odd that "The Adventures of Robin Hood" wasn't in the first set, but it's out on DVD so maybe it doesn't need to go in set 2. Maybe something else that's good, but that's not out on DVD yet. I hadn't heard about a Curtiz set. That's good news! Although I hope they don't put Casablanca in it. I already have TWO copies of that film! Give us more Flynn!
CineSage_jr
There's no need for such top-sellers (for classic titles) as CASABLANCA and THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD to be packaged in future box sets (though they, with YANKEE DOODLE DANDY already have been in a Warner's box with a bonus disc of the less-than-terrific documentary (a promotional film, really), "Here's Looking at You, Kid". Along with LIGHT BRIGADE, I think the most essential title for the set is THE ADVENTURES OF DON JUAN. After those, I'd really like DESPERATE JOURNEY, GENTLEMAN JIM, EDGE OF DARKNESS, SANTA FE TRAIL, and TOO MUCH, TOO SOON (a truly fine performance -- John Barrymore was Flynn's idol, Errol was, to a not insignificant degree, reliving Barrymore's life of dissipation and physical decline, and knew the character of the man he was protraying from first-hand experience). A re-mastering of THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER is also needed, as the original disc was taken from inferior elements. And, while we're on the subject of swashbuckling adventuire, the folks at Warner's should be seriously thinking of giving us a Stewart Granger box, too. jarhfive
Hello, Well, this message was (originally) a question regarding, "Why isn't the Errol Flynn movie 'Roots Of Heaven' out on DVD?". Why the question? Because, one of the last things Errol Flynn writes in his autobiography "My Wicked, Wicked Ways" is an anecdote about making "Roots Of Heaven". Note that I don't plan to stop mentioning "My Wicked, Wicked Ways" for the foreseeable future. Anyway. I looked up "Roots Of Heaven" on IMDB. The IMDB reviews for "Roots Of Heaven" are a piece of s***. So, never mind. I am not interested in "Roots Of Heaven" on DVD. Rusty
MattHelm
Forget "Errol Flynn" movies ... if you want to see Flynn at his best, watch The Sun Also Rises. He's the only good thing in the movie, though he only plays a supporting part. I couldn't wait to see this movie because it's my favorite book, but most of the actors are miscast in it. I never liked Tyrone Power and he really sucks in this. Even Ava Gardner, whom I love, is miscast. But Flynn makes it worth watching and steals the show. But I'm thinking you've seen this one already. Did you say you read a Flynn biography? That's news to me.

shearerchic04
"The way things are set up now, when it comes to the classics titles, most of the ideas come from me, in that I will present them to my teammates here. We're very much a team in terms of the marketing focus. I work with a great group of people. We all really help each other and we have tremendous enthusiasm for what we're doing. So we'll all pitch ideas, and the fact that I've been working with most of this library for 16 years in one capacity or another gives me a good background of history and success. I know that what's succeeded before will succeed again, and that what's failed before is not worth revisiting, with rare exception. We will propose things that we feel will be profitable and also are what the customers want. I constantly pursue all the chat rooms and websites and news groups to see what the people are saying." CineSage_jr
Desperate Journey was aired recently and I thought it was a poor script, and a very poor depiction of the Canadian north in wartime or any other time. You're thinking of the decidedly inferior NORTHERN PURSUIT (1943), in which Flynn plays a Mountie who's apparently gone over the hill to collaborate with Nazi saboteurs. DESPERATE JOURNEY (1942) is, in fact, a rousing war film, in which Flynn, Arthur Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Alan Hale, and Ronald Sinclair, Allied fliers shot down over Nazi-occupied Europe, have to outwit "The Iron Boot," the Nazi officer played by Raymond Massey, in order to escape to England.
