JackBurley
Greetings Forum Board! I've been haunting and posting on the Boards for about a week now. I'm both impressed and humbled by the knowlege of other posters here. At my age it's great to feel like a neophyte again! I'm curious to know if there are any favorite websites that posters use as a resource regarding new and upcoming DVD releases. I habitually check the Criterion Collection's (http://www.criterionco.com/asp) site, and this site which lists upcoming releases: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/bargain.php. Do you know of other sites? I'm curious if there are sites that would provide better details regarding the DVDs (listing the special features, for instance). What are your favorite resources? JackBurley
I'll definitely check out those sites. I assume the Kino site will only list Kino DVDs though, eh? I bought a Kino disk a couple of years ago. It was Douglas Sirk's (then known as Detlef Sierck) La Habanera starring Zarah Leander. I'd always wanted to see Leander's work, and was also fascinated to see an early Sirk piece. 2/3 of the way into the flick though there was a glitch and the DVD skipped a good portion of the movie. I exchanged it for another copy and the same thing happened. I exchanged this copy for a third one to the same result. So now I admit I have a general distrust for Kino products; and they have some very tempting offers! I wonder if other people have had better results from Kino? JonParker
I probably own 40 Kino DVDs and have never had an issue with any of them. Sounds like a problem with the plant that did the pressing for them. Kino is a class act all the way, although i sometimes question their choice of scores on silent films. JackBurley
That's what I needed to hear. I wonder how many people bought La Habanera and had the same problem that I did. Anyway, with your voice of confidence behind them, I'll give Kino another try. Thanks again!
CineSage_jr
Is ignorance bliss? One need look no further than the life and career of George W. Bush. A happier man you'll never find.
