Least Liked Hollywood Film Stars

?My thoughts exactly. Who cares about actors personal lifestyles, likes or dislikes? The sole reason of watching a film is to get into the story itself for mere enjoyment and entertainment.

Who cares what people do in their personal lives??

I agree. I don?t care about the personal lives of opera stars who sing the operas I like, or the lives of the people who make the cars I drive. I don?t really care about the personal lives of the great painters of the past.

In fact, it?s upsetting to me to hear that someone I like in films was a big jerk in real life.

Gosh Fred, then I guess you didn't care for Kirk's wonderful portrayal of Van Gogh in LUST FOR LIFE!!!! Really, all kidding aside, It does get totally sickening to see all the rags screaming headlines of who is pregnant by whom, who is banging whom, etc all the time. Who gives a gnat's a-- anyway?? They are mere mortals like the rest of us. Haven't we all had babies and lived our lives a bit precariously perhaps from time to time? So what's so great about them, except they are overpaid for what the contribute to society...

For me, most of them are modern day, some are classics:

John Wayne.YYYYYYYuck!!!!!

John travolta SSSSSSSame!!!

Ron Reagan the trend continues

Joan Crawford, after Mildred Pierce, she was yucky

TOM CRUISE scientolo...er, idiotologist!!!!!

Ugh!!!!! I'm resting my case here and now.

I'd have to agree with the Tom Cruise votes. And it's not because of his personal life. I don't think I'd like him much in person but there are other actors I probably wouldn't want to meet but adore on the screen. I personally don't get why he's so famous. I don't think he changes from role to role and I get no emotions from him. I think he should have been a stuntman. Again, I don't completely hate him, no star is worth that kind of emotion, but I think he's severly overrated.

I've been a fan of wallace beery for 40 yrs. and with all the research I've done, in hollywood I guess he was one of the worst people on this planet, besides, al jolson, and hitler. What happened to him and why did he treat people so badly. Who were his personel friends, did he have any?

The appeal of Richard Burton is 1) the timbre of his voice; 2) the plaintiff look of a downtrodden soul that he evokes with his eyes; and 3) his accessability to Elizabeth Taylor Hilton Wilding Todd Fisher Burton Burton Warner Fortensky.

Mr. Harvey? I'm not sure of his appeal...

Ah well, since we all must have our first post,I thought I'd throw caution to the wind and state my most least favorite stars: Katherine Hepburn,Humphrey Bogart,Debra Kerr,Montgomery Clift and Burt Lancaster. Before I get roasted too badly, I have to add that my "aversion" is based on a purely physical one-I just don't like their looks. I will admit that these stars are very capable actors but I just can't stand to watch them on the screen for very long. It's just a personal opinion, one that I can't even qualify, but liken to food preferences. Some people think lobster is the best food on earth and I would have to be starving on a desert island to eat it.To each his/her own and that is what makes the world go 'round!

Ouch! My dad looked a lot like a tall Bogie, and I'm the spitting image of my dad! ;-) I actually prefer plain (even ugly) actors and actresses. I think their talent shines brighter without having to break through the layers of fluff. But at least you had the guts to say it. My earlier post on this thread was John Travolta, but I actually wanted to say Travolta and John Wayne. Figured I'd catch a ton of flak over it and be called a traitor, so I left him out. But I'm a coward. Welcome to the forum.

Hopefully, any roasting will be handled with class and a deft wit. You will find the occasional biting sarcasm. I will only disagree with you on Deborah Kerr. The others I can see where they might fall short of one's standards.

Is Clift pre or post accident?

Welcome aboard.

As you said: " To each his/her own." That's what make the world go round. Although I'm surprised you would include Humphrey Bogart in the equation.

I think he has the classic criminal look for a lot of the rolls he stared in.

John Wayne was a dirty word in our house when I growing up. So was Ronald Reagan. My dad was in the military and thought Wayne was a hypocrite. We would watch his movies but not for him.

I really can't take Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie either. Not because of their recent publicity but just don't care for them.

I also don't get what everyone sees in people who are famous for being famous (Paris Hilton) and then trying to make actors out of them. I wish they would stop.

I agree, patful. I even think Victor McLaughlin has charm. But I draw the line at Charles Laughton!

However, I think Bogey is one of the sexiest actors ever. On a par with Grant, and they couldn't be more opposite re prettiness.

To each his own, you're right, JennBob.

Yep, there's my reason for disliking John Wayne, and also Reagan. I was an Air Force brat, and other than "Wings of Eagles", we either didn't watch his movies, or we laughed at the ones we did see.

I don't have favorite or least favorite actors based on their personal lives generally speaking,at least amongst the actors of Hollywood's golden era. I don't really like any contemporary actors or recently contemporary actors,as I don't like or watch modern movies. And the private lives and views of modern actors seem to be shoved in our faces more than that of the golden era stars. I have my own political views, and I don't really care what some star's political views are-of all people in the world, why would the political views of an actor carry more weight than, say,my local vet's,or my local hairdresser's? They get paid to ACT(sing, etc). And I'll be frank and say it's even more irritating when they have views with which I disagree, which is most of the contemporary ones.

If there's an actor whom I don't like based on their private life/political views,it's because they've shoved it in the public's face.I didn't ask to know. I generally have an aversion to actors for some other reason-I don't like their looks or their mannerisms or something. I guess really I don't have any set criteria,I just don't care for some of them. Just a matter of my personal taste. I have less non-favorites amongst the classic stars, because they had more mystique, and not too many seemed to feel they had to justify earning their living as actors by spouting off on "issues". I respect that, and I respect that they respected their metier, instead of acting like they had to be more to justify "playacting" for a living.

I understand where your coming from. It's only because the world is so speeded up and the vast information available today that we're bombarded with all the Hollywood hype.

Remember however, that Hollywood kept a lot of secrets in those days. We would be very surprised to find out half of the things that went on back then. But it's probably best that we didn't. It would shatter the whole mystique of what Hollywood use to be in the eyes of the public.
