It doesn't matter how bad...

Recommended Posts

So there was another thread about all time favorite stars and I couldn't really narrow my list down and didn't post, but it made me think about stars I will watch even in the worst films. No matter how bad the movie is I watch it through.

This is my list:

Barabara Stanwyck

Ginger Rogers

Judy Garland

Joan Blondell

Humphrey Bogart

James Stewart

Cary Grant

This is not to say that I don't adore other actors, including some current ones, but these are the people I watch no matter how bad the movie is. Does anyone else have a list like this?

My list would also include :Stanwyck, Gary Cooper, Burt Lancaster, Clark Gable, Carole Lombard and William Powell. With a helping of Bogart, Grant and Warren William.

My list would include:

Marlon Brando (I'll watch him in any film),

Richard Widmark (I don't think he ever made a bad film)

Vic Morrow (wish he made more films - he was great - wouldn't miss his films)

Bette Davis (love to watch her films)

Vivien Leigh (great actress - enjoy watching her films)

Ginger Rogers comes to mind first. Such a great all-arounder. And sexy too.

I've suddenly developed a new appreciation for Deborah Kerr. It gives me pleasure to see her name in a cast list.

Brando of course is always fascinating. Paul Muni, too.

Then there's people who played themselves, so they're always entertaining: Edward G. Robinson, Cary Grant, John Wayne

Thelma Ritter is good in "The Misfits" too. Her character (Monroe's sidekick) loves the wayward cowboys (Gable, Wallach and Clift) in spite of their flaws. It's funny--I don't consider this to be a great or even particularly good film, but it has an eerie fascination. Maybe it's because most of the principals died shortly after its completion. If you haven't seen it yet, you should.

Good question. Not all films shown on TCM are old, but most of Spacy's starring roles are within the past 10 years. Prior to that he was a supporting actor albeit a very good one. Put something on the "suggest a movie" board-- it can't hurt.
