Pipeline ‘hypocrisy’ shows ‘Canada is not a real country’

"But what really grates me is the sheer hypocrisy. Coderre and the other Montreal-area mayors say they are worried about the environmental consequences of the pipeline. This is rich coming from the leaders of a city that has a history of dumping raw sewage into the St. Lawrence River. And let’s not forget that Montreal gets much its power from the James Bay Project. People seem to have conveniently forgotten that this massive hydroelectric project in central Quebec ravaged a huge swath of the Hudson Bay and James Bay watersheds. You call that clean power? What hypocrisy."

Since we are getting so much advice from the North, I think it is only fair to point out what they are up to. Dumping raw sewage? Destroying watersheds? Not very clean, lol.

As the oilsands are punished, tanker loads of cheap Saudi oil sail into Canadian ports daily

Where is the political outrage over oil imports from rogue nations with inferior environmental records and deplorable behaviours toward women, dissidents and minorities?

Where are the beefed up regulatory reviews of Saudi Arabia’s climate change impacts, or their dumping practices? Why is Canada so consumed with scrubbing its oil clean while oil from foreign sources flows into the gasoline tanks of Eastern Canadians free of scrutiny?

*************************************************************

And Obama called Canadian oil dirty, see how things go in circles?

I could add some fodder to this thread but I doubt anyone is really that interested.

But keep up the good work.  Canada's deplorable environmental record under the Conservative government for the last ten years should be highlighted.  It's the Liberals who want environmental regulations don't you know.

Environment Canada officers failed to uphold the law: report

The federal department that enforces Canada’s environmental laws is in such disarray that some officers say they have been ignoring infractions in order to keep in line with Ottawa’s “priorities,” according to an internal government report.

The report’s findings suggest Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s promise to “restore Canada’s reputation for environmental stewardship,” will require more than just policy pronouncements.

Looks like Canada already has the environmental regulations but don't enforce them as usual. Flint, Michigan 2.0

Teck Metals expected to plead guilty to 15 pollution-related charges

B.C. mining giant Teck Metals is expected to plead guilty to more than a dozen charges related to pollution in the city of Trail, B.C. and the Columbia river system, according to the provincial court registry.

The company faces 15 charges in total, ranging from introducing business-related waste into the environment to depositing a harmful substance.

The Columbia River system enters the U.S. so this affects us. I never would have believed Canada would pollute their own lands and rivers.

Hundreds of shipwrecks pose environmental threat to Canada’s coasts

A 16×9 investigation has discovered there are hundreds of sunken ships in Canadian waters, some of which have leaked oil in the past and are at risk of doing so again.

Besides the environmental concerns, there are also financial hazards dealing with these shipwrecks. The federal government has spent close to $30 million over the past few years cleaning up spills from multiple ships that have corroded under Canadian waters.

***************************************************************

Instead of wasting billions of Canadian dollars on global warming, these shipwrecks could be cleaned up among other things. Why wait for them to leak?

Environment Canada accuses Vale of decades of water pollution

Environment Canada is investigating Vale SA’s Sudbury, Ont., smelting operations for allegedly leaking toxic run-off into local waterways since at least 1963.

The allegations are contained in a warrant the government agency used to seize documents, computers and related materials from Vale’s Sudbury offices on Oct. 8 as part of its investigation into potential violations of the Fisheries Act.

New reports shed light on Fording River pollution problems

The Fording River seems to run through paradise in the wild Canadian Rocky Mountains, but Environment Canada experts say it is so heavily polluted that fish are hatching with terrible deformities and dying by the thousands.

Teck Coal Ltd. has long acknowledged their responsibility concerning a pollution problem in the Elk Valley, with the company spending $600-million over the next five years in an unprecedented effort to improve water quality.

More 3-eyed fish found. Is there a river in Canada that is not polluted, I am starting to wonder.

Again, thanks MovieMadness for bringing this to our attention.  Thank goodness George W. Bush rolled back all environmental protection regulations so that this cannot happen in your country too.

Have you not noticed that this corruption by governments which are put in place by big business knows no borders?  Or are you merely being conveniently selective with your criticism?

Montreal sewage dump is over three days ahead of schedule

The city announced Friday it would go ahead with a plan to dump 8 billion litres of untreated sewage into the St. Lawrence River. It had put the plan on hold earlier this week after people complained about the project, but now says it has no choice.

Quebec's environment ministry approved the plan earlier this year. Environment Minister David Heurtel said this week he was led to believe there was no other way to clear the sewer lines when the plan was approved.

In 2013 there were 45,000 occasions when cities and towns in Quebec dumped raw sewage into the St. Lawrence river.

Montreal's wastewater treatment facility was only completed in 1998, and until then untreated sewage flowed directly into the waterways.

Oh yummy, another large sewage dump in the St. Lawrence River by Quebec. Does the creature from the black lagoon live there, it must stink for miles.

Nuclear and Radioactive Packages Keep Going Missing in Canada

Last year alone, 14 radioactive packages were lost or stolen, according to the annual report from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), and less than half were later recovered. That's on top of the dozen of other nuclear packages from recent years that have yet to be found.

The report doesn't detail the circumstances of the losses or thefts, except to say that they were either "sealed sources" — a secure container carrying nuclear or radioactive material — or "radioactive devices."

*************************************************************

Is this a pattern or what, now they are losing radioactive packages like they are missing boxes of Wheaties. And of all the things to lose track of, radioactive material is about the dumbest.

92,000 petition Canada not to store nuclear waste near Great Lakes

Ninety-two-thousand people have pressed Ottawa to reject a proposal to store nuclear waste in an underground vault near the Great Lakes, fearing a spill would contaminate this source of drinking water for 40 million in Canada and the United States.

A 6,000-page petition signed by opponents of local utility Ontario Power Generation's proposal to store waste in a deep limestone vault to be drilled beneath the world's largest operating nuclear power plant on the Bruce Peninsula, more than 200 kilometers northwest of Toronto, was delivered to Environment Minister Catherine McKenna, her office confirmed Thursday.

********************************************************************

Does anyone trust Canada to store nuclear waste near the Great Lakes? I hope not after reading how the rivers are contaminated and they dump raw sewage. This is another thing they are up to that could affect the U.S. and should be stopped. If they can lose radioactive packages for years and not care, this should not be approved. Even Godzilla would think they are nuts.

Wrong, you need competent people which you don't have. Trudeau probably can't understand a comic book and he is elected? BTW I already posted you have people who are suppose to keep the waterways clean and don't do their jobs. Greenpeace is a joke. You act like conservatives are the only ones who pollute, what you have is a group effort, there is no doubt about that. Maybe I can see why though. many socialist countries were polluted heavily too. If you are happy living in a polluted country that is up to you, but let me remind you we just had the worst gas leak in the U.S. happen is a Democrat state. Flint, Michigan is a Democrat city and switched water to a polluted river. Many conservative states are not polluted. Let's not let the facts matter though.

Pollution and degradation of the environment and global warming denial is by no means limited to the right wing.  Communist Bloc countries have been the worst offenders for decades.

But you, who are an avowed right winger have devoted yourself on these boards to saying that pollution, degradation of the environment and global warming is a left wing conspiracy and that it doesn't exist.  You are such a fool that you cannot see the hypocrisy of your own arguments in wanting it both ways.

17 of 20 are Red States (controlled by majority Republican governments).

That is all about carbon emissions and global warming which is a scam, the most polluted air is really all in California, a liberal state controlled by Democrats. California also just had the largest gas leak that polluted the equivalent of 5 million cars every day for months. This graph proves what California is up to, so Democrats have no problems polluting. Now those are facts.

No, it isn't. You said, and I quote, "Many conservative states are not polluted. Let's not let the facts matter though."

I presented the facts that dispute your claim. Or is the World Atlas now in on the "liberal" agenda?
