traceyk65
OK, call me dense, but did the person do this in real life or reel life ?

Gerb
Well then, Clue #2: I was even the scorn of Kirk Douglas when he thought I was luring his wife away.

wordmaster
Could it be...Grady Sutton?
Gerb
Right on, Wordmaster! Sutton was one of those filler actors that seemed to pop up everywhere. Take it away.
wordmaster
Thanks, Gerb. Clue #3 was the most help, as was the William Powell reference. This is a question for beginners: Harpo, but not Groucho; Redford, but not Newman; Cary, but not Clark; Garbo, but not Lamarr. We belong to a club with many other members. Which one? Gerb
Beginners, huh? Who is this Cary and Garbo you speak of? Must be obscure character actors from the 30s!
wordmaster
Surely you jest...and don't call me Shirley! ;-) Those would be Cary Grant and Greta Garbo...and I am still waiting for an answer...

CharlieT
I was going to guess "blondes" but I remembered that Cary Grant had dark hair when he was young and just aged gracefully.
Gerb
Don't worry. Me and Archibald Leach (or should I say Cary Granite) go way back. But, I'm yet to come up with the connection. That'll be a job for tomorrow. And, please excuse the bad grammar, Wordmaster.
wordmaster
No problem, Gerb. Other club members: Paul McCartney and Ringo, but not John and George [the latter two were never club members] Simon, but not Garfunkel Oddly enough, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis are still club members... wordmaster
Excellent, Sandy! I am also a member of the left-handers club. The next question is yours.
sandykaypax
I'm left-handed, too! Hooray for us! I was reprimanded once by Fred for answering a question here because he felt that I was not a beginner...so, I will pass the torch to someone that has a question to ask. Sandy K
Gerb
I wouldn't worry about that so much. I don't imagine many people on here are truly beginners or they wouldn't be so in to these boards. I would consider my wife a beginner because she couldn't tell Bogart from Stewart from Gable when we first met (though I've rectified that). I wouldn't consider any of the questions that I've seen here specifically "for beginners" because they'd have to be solely about John Wayne, Cary Grant, Bette Davis and such. wordmaster
It's all right with me too, Sandy, if you ask one. We just want to make sure the questions are not too obscure. For example...how many films did Clark Gable appear in without a moustache? As long as you have an interesting question, I think that is all that matters. sandykaypax
Ok, thanks! What do these films have in common? 42ND STREET THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE SINGIN' IN THE RAIN THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER Sandy K
sandykaypax
Hmm..I thought this would be fairly easy. Hint: think Broadway. Sandy K
sandykaypax
Still no takers? Another hint: think of something that happened AFTER these films were first shown. Sandy K
patful
All were films that were later made into Broadway shows. Give enough clues, even an idiot can answer! :-)
