Any fans of his work here? Ralph's movies are just about my favorite animated films, ever. "Fritz the Cat," "Heavy Traffic," "Coonskin," "Wizards," "The Lord of the Rings" and "American Pop" are all true animation classics.

I'm a big fan of Mr. Bakshi's work. He's the reason that South Park and Simpsons are/have been some of the top rated shows on television.

But beyond that the real reason I love Ralph Bakshi's films and artwork is that he shows himself and his understanding of *mostly urban* life, and is unapologetic if people don't understand. =:B

My choice of Bakshi film to play on TMC, I would pick Hey Good Lookin', Coonskin or American Pop. For spirit, honesty and true heart in that order. And cause they best depict his urban/jazz style of animating and directing.

And check out this great article on the Animation Archive about him:

Anyone else like his work?

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Ralphy Bakshi. I used to really like him as a teenager, but his movies just haven't aged very well, in my opinion. They all seem very gimmicky and Bakshi?s response to criticism is very poor, because he just says things like ?well, you don?t like my movies because you only want to see Disney animation.? His whole career seems to be predicated on ?pushing the envelope? just for the sake of ?pushing the envelope.? Just my opinion.

Yeah he doesn't seem to grasp that some people don't like his films just because they don't like his films, not because they prefer Disney animation. I did like the work from his MIGHTY MOUSE stint, but I find his features rather simplistically written & cliched.

I think "Wizards" was almost like a Rite of Passage for me. A bunch of us watched it in Junior High School after "Predator" and before some Italian soft-core flick.

I'm not a Lord of the Rings person but oh how I love how LOTR nerds get riled up when they see the Bakshi version.

I don't usually give Bakshi much thought. Seen "Fritz the Cat" and "American pop" and his LOTR. Decent stuff.

I can say this though: I think his version of 'Lord of Rings' is in fact, better than Peter Jackson's.
