beastooge
> Those steps still exist in the Silverlake neighborhood East of Hollywood and > were also used by the Three Stooges in "An Ache in Every Stake". The stairs from AN ACHE IN EVERY STAKE (1941) are in the Silver Lake section, but not the same ones. The Stooges' staircase is about a mile away (as the crow flies), on Fair Oak View Terrace... East on Sunset Blvd., left on Alvarado St., to the stoplight intersection of Glendale Blvd. Left on Glendale, keeping to the right lane, and make a right onto Alessandro St. A couple hundred yards, make a left on Oak View. Straight ahead a couple blocks, and Fair Oak View Terrace (a cul de sac) will be on your right.
2reelers
>Those steps still exist in the Silverlake neighborhood East of Hollywood ... In addition to "It's Your Move", "The Music Box" and "Hats Off", I'm pretty sure the same steps can be seen in the Billy Bevan/Andy Clyde silent short "Ice Cold Cocos", which was partially reworked as "An Ache In Every Stake". andersenrv
I don't remember where I read that they were the same, but you are correct these are different stairs! Last night I studied Ache, Music Box & It's Your Move side by side on split screen and it's amazing how similar the 2 flights are. The Stooge steps are wider and have a hand rail. I had previously noticed the hand rail, but assumed that it had been added between 1932 & 1941. The Music Box steps can be found at the intersection of Vendome & Del Monte in Silverlake, for more info... http://www.laurel-and-hardy.com/featureshort/talkie/0081/81-shoot.html and for a recent photo of the steps... http://www.laurelandhardy.org/MusicBox.htm LaughingGravy

HalRoach16mm
If you enjoyed the All Star short, "Music In Your Hair", don't miss "Apples To You", Jan 2nd at 6:36PM. Directed by Leigh Jason, this short has one of Billy Gilbert's best performances as a producer. This short, Music In Your Hair and Rhapsody In Brew (again with Billy Bletcher and Gilbert as the Shmaltz Brothers) are what I like to call the All Star Trilogy. Don't miss this fun pre-code rarity. I've run them on film as one half of a double bill and the audience loved it. And, of course Charley, Thelma, Billy and the Garbo stunt double will be seen in The Nickel Nurser, Jan. 2nd. at 5:36AM (both times are West Coast)

BMode35
Anyone see when the 2006 in memory dedication to entertainments passing short will air? I love that year ending recap? It's very sad, but good to remember! I've collected the last 3 years. It would be cool to show them back to back in a show!
Bill_McCrary
Anyone see when the 2006 in memory dedication to entertainments passing short will air? They've been showing them after LOTS of movies, but there's no listing for them (at least on the forum). Leave a recorder/TiVo/HardDrive running today, because it may not be up for much longer. There is a link (somewhere) for the older ones, and this will probably be added. Do a search for "TCM Remembers" and you'll find the other threads (several of them) about this. BMode35
Well I just saw it after Foreign Correspondent, and I'm pretty disappointed. I don't know if someone else said it first, but there is too much "stylization" going on here and not enough emphasis on the talented past. I mean it's like watching a MTV video. "...Richard Bright?..... o yeah he was in the Godfather movies wasn't he?" "quick Joseph Stefano, screen writer for....?" Barnard Hughes...remember him from Tron? It's a ridiculous montage, but nice to see it nevertheless. Happy New Year again.

My fiance and I just saw this short - entirely without explanation or anything - in between two Marx Bros movies. We watched silently, in a state of stunned astonishment and morbid fascination, until the end, when he turned to me and said, "I hope that guy (the TCM narrator) comes back and tells us who the **** that was!!" gisele
funny. I absolutely adored that short. I realize, being made in 1928, it can't live up to the glitz and splash of MTV, but I thought it was subtle and witty. I'd like to know more about him. The only thing I could find on the internet was a possible world war 2 air force picture. Might not be the same Leo Beers.
Bill_McCrary
We watched silently, in a state of stunned astonishment and morbid fascination, I'm just betting you haven't seen the one from about 1925 (a Lee DeForest early sound experiment) with the "singing" duck!!! THAT's what I thought at first they were going to show. He (DeF) made several surviving sound-on-film experiments, including Eddie Cantor, Calvin Coolidge, and others. I think I saw them somewhere other than TCM.
waffleslost
I missed the Leo Beers short, but saw THE NICKEL NURSER this morning! A funny short, I loved Billy Gilbert's psychotic butler going on a shooting rampage. Thelma Todd looked beautiful and was beautifully photographed, Charley and Thelma both did classic double "takes". I think I love hearing LeRoy Shield's music the best, his tunes are always with me. Thank you, MGMWBRKO and TCM! Play some Joe Penner shorts!

Guest
I have a stupid question. TCM shows M.O.D shorts The Boyfriend, The Hill,Alfred The Great but as far as I can tell their not scheduled or on DVD.Isn't it a tease. I thought the M.O.D.'s were suppose to make you want to see the movie but these movies aren't avaliable to see . I'm glad the shorts are posted but what MGMWBRKO doesn't realize is years ago I saw a interveiw and they were discussing sports fan and one guy said fan is short for fanatic and I always remembered that..So please only show the M.O.D.'S that the movie is avaliable to be seen, but other than that all shorts are important to someone so please play variety . Thank You MGMWBRKO you are doing a great service.

Thank You MGMWBRKO you are > doing a great service. One of the beauties of TCM is that you can see things that are not available in any other way. If you carry your logic far enough, you can make a case for not showing any film other than those on DVD. That would eliminate the draw of TCM and make it just another television station to be ignored. These MODs are interesting as a bit of film history and a look behind the scenes of how films are made. Just because I can't buy "The Wind" on DVD doesn't mean I am not vastly interested in the documentary that usually airs with it (and is on the LaserDisc). TCM may not always show the films that are subjects of the MODs on a regular basis, but they do show some of them.
gerbino63
Guys...relax...some of you are doin' it again...remember---this is a kind service that MGMWBRKO does for us "FANS" (and, YES!...I think he/she now knows the meaning of the word FAN...in spades!)I know we all mean well. Let's have a Happy, Healthy (and calm) New Year.
Clayton
MGMWBRKO does us all a service with the schedules of shorts. The "making of" documentaries that are shown do not have to be for a movie that is to be shown that minute. I'm sure that TCM will get around to showing the movies at a later date and this will give us all something to look forward to. Remember that these documentaries were not shown at the theater with the movie, but were used in promoting these films (usually on television or at special promotional functions). They were designed to make you want to see the film. We can watch them from a historical persepective. As far as DVD is concerned, the beauty of having a channel like TCM is that they are not handcuffed by showing what is available on DVD or what is in the public domain, but can truly offer us alternatives that are not available elsewhere. I look at the schedule with an eye toward what is not available these other places and especially look for the rarities that they offer. Over the years, they have offered us special offerings like the Sunday morning airings of the complete Bowery Boys series. I would love to see these again or other series offered week after week in a particular time slot. (The Falcon, The Saint, Tarzan, etc.) If they are available on DVD, this is just repiticious. In the meantime, MGMWBRKO will keep us posted as to which shorts are aired. I will no longer have to set the recorder to record the spaces between movies one after the other all day long hoping to catch one of these gems. (Yes, I did this.) Thank you again.
