Upcoming shorts on TCM

Recommended Posts

Leonard Maltin's 2007 Movie Guide lists the running time for Pepe as 157 minutes, but has a note at the end, "Originally released at 195m." The book also rates it a "Bomb". The original version must have been truly awful.

Hi MGMWBRKO,

Is it possible that the Oscar winning two reel short, Sons of Liberty (1939), which I saw about 2 years ago on TCM, might reappear someday? This short, directed by no less than Michael Curtiz, stars Claude Rains as one of the financiers of the American Revolution, Haym Salomon. It features such sharp supporting players as Gale Sondergaard, Donald Crisp and Montagu Love, (as George Washington). I'd hoped that it might emerge from obscurity in time for President's Day during the Oscar tribute month. Thanks in advance for any info that you might have to offer.

Thank you for scheduling Hitler Lives!

Is is possible that The Magician's Daughter (1938) will be rescheduled during Oscar month? I set up to record it, but it must have come on a little late, because even when I allowed extra time each way, I missed the end.

Thanks so much for continuing to post the shorts schedule.

MGMWBRKO,

Is there any chance you can reschedule the TravelTalk short "Mackinac Island"? I saw only the last minute or two of it when it aired a few weeks ago, and would love to see the whole thing because I love the movie "Somewhere in Time" that was filmed there.

By the way, that short would be a great lead-in or end of movie One-Reel Wonder if you show "Somewhere in Time."

Thanks,

filmlover

Is there any chance that The Plow That Broke the Plains will be playing anytime soon?

I just finished reading Tim Egan's book "The Worst Hard Time: The Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl".

One of the stories in the book is of Bam White and his family. Bam White is the man at the plow in the film. He wasn't paid very much for being in the film but it helped his family survive the Dust Bowl. He was ridiculed by his neighbors for being in the film. He was not really a farmer but a cowboy. But he took the job because he needed the money.

He died within a year of making the film probably from dust pneumonia.

Would love to see the film.

Hi Lynn,

I saw this on a dvd called Our Daily Bread and Other Films of the Great Depression. It was at my local library and included King Vidor's Our Daily Bread (with prologue, 1934), California Election News #1 and #2 (1934.), Pare Lorentz's The Plow That Broke the Plains (1936), Pare Lorentz's The River (1937), Joris Ivens' Power and the Land (1940) and H.P. McClure's The New Frontier (1934) . There's also another dvd that has this movie & The River on it and both of these are available through Amazon and other sites, though I'd probably check the library for it before purchasing. Here's a link so that you can read about both dvds. Btw, thanks for steering me to tiny url a while back. Good luck:

> Can anyone say whether R.I.P. will be back in

> March?

A few weeks ago I queried TCM about this series. Their response: "After they've all run once (the last unaired episode airs in late March), they're all going to start running as interstitials during the day and primetime." Two episodes are scheduled for Saturdays, March 10 and 17 at 3:25am (time approximate), in between the TCM Underground double feature. There are 13 episodes in the series. I missed three of them, and eagerly await any showings. Hopefully, this forum's guardian angel, MGMWBRKO, will be able to tell us exactly when repeats are due to air.
