misScarlett
Hi I'm new here. Sort of. I used to come to TCM chat way back years ago. We had such fun discussing old movies, directors and genres. In any event, I just purchased White Heat with Jimmy Cagney. I had never seen the entire film before. He was incredible, was he not!? I was suprised at Virginia Mayo. She was great as the moll. And was that not the actress that played the Mother, the same actress that played Gary Cooper's Mom in Sergant York? She had range, to play such two different types of Mother. I think that it was money well spent. We really enjoyed it.
ken123
Margaret Wycherly played Cagney's mother in White Heat!
CineSage_jr
Ironically, Wycherly's mother character in WHITE HEAT was sufficiently psychotic that she could've killed all those WWI German soldiers in SERGEANT YORK, thereby eliminating the need for her pacifist son, Alvin York, to go to war. ayresorchids
I agree that it's a terrific movie. It just hangs together really well, isn't predictable, and has an amazingly evil performance by Cagney.
redriver
One of the very best crime dramas I've seen. Outstanding movie. Exciting. Suspenseful. Character driven. Influenced prison films for years to come. Even Woody Allen, no less, in TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN. As much as I like HIGH SIERRA and SCARFACE, this is the gangster film to reckon with. Top of the world is right!
