pilgrimsoul
I was taken to a commercial movie theatre to see a religious movie about 40 years ago by a nun in my parochial school. The movie, which seems to have taken place in Mexico or Spain, contained a scene in which a crucifix came to life, and the figure of Jesus moved, looked up at the boy who was a central character and gave him some sort of advice/guidance. I think that the boy was very poor and was illiterate. Needless to say, this image disturbed me and emblazoned itself on my youthful mind. I'm not excessively religious or neurotic today, ( i hope), but I'd sure like to know the name of this movie. Thank you if you can help.
coolrob1955
Don't know the name of the film. But I remember when I was very young how I hated to go to my aunts house. She was a devout Catholic and had a picture of Jesus and the Sacred Heart on the wall of her spare room (the room I slept in). It scared the crap out of me. To a four year old it looked more like a still from a horror movie than an inspiration. Catholics can be very spooky at times. Regards
BallofFire
I believe you are thinking of the movie The Miracle of Marcelino (1954) - I cry every time I see it - (spoiler): the little boy dies in the end. I used stories like this last year with the Catholic Religion class I taught when the kids asked for something more entertaining and maybe even creepy-I guess kids today are not frightened as easily. pilgrimsoul
Thanks so much for your excellent memory and sharing your knowledge! This solves a haunting mystery for me. I guess kids are tougher nowadays. The memory of this movie still creeps me out, but I'll probably have to see the dvd of The Miracle of Marcelino asap to expiate any lingering fears. Wish me luck...
