Trump has nominated a far right extremist to the court.  Let the Battle begin.  Of course, Dems will lose, but at least they can give a good fight going down.

So, have McConnell and Graham said when the hearings will begin?

Health care has already come up as part of the debate about the appointment and will probably become a much bigger issue in the campaign. She has already expressed her opinion against "Obamacare."  80% of people who benefit from that program live in states that Trump won in 2016.

All you dimwitted democrats are done- Like I said- get used to the powers that be - at the rate your going you'll all be working way past retirement - us younger conservatives no longer need your dead weight - start stretching those social security checks - no healthcare for all , no more abortions, no more illegals, no more waste. Cue the Vincent Price Thriller laugh track😆😘

Will never happen, but what we need is a Constitutional amendment stating that Supreme Court justices can serve no longer than 12 years and there must be a 2/3's majority vote of all members of the Senate to confirm them.  If you can't get 2/3's of the senators to agree on a nominee you obviously do not have the support of 2/3's of the people and probably not a majority.

Trump's nominees have been confirmed by senators representing a minority of Americans.

Actually what we need is a Constitutional Convention with delegates picked by each state based on the populations of the states.

I recall seeing an interview shortly after the 2016 election with a woman from one of those States.  She was weeping when she recounted the story of contracting cancer and that previously she had no insurance and now credited Obamacare with saving her life.  She went on to say that she voted for Donald Trump knowing that he wanted to get rid of Obamacare because she thought it was her duty to her country to do so.

Oh, don't worry about us. Speaking of what IS constitutional. Adding four more seats to the Supreme Court. I think President Obama would look excellent in those black robes. And then we can add a few states. Let's start with DC and Puerto Rico.  Don't get too used to the powers that be. They'll be changing in January!

Why do you care if there are no more abortions?    I guess you don't support freedom.

Are you upset that plastic straws were banned by some states?

I ask because to be more concerned that the government is imposing on individual rights by denying plastic straws,  but to actually push for that same government to have say over what a women does with her own body,,,  well it just doesn't make any sense.

A charm offensive would’ve been, well, merely offensive.
But this is the Quid Pro Quo President, and the Deutschebank twist puts a darker spin on the story.

Could it be that there’s a shadow over ALL THREE Trump SCOTUS nominations?

"..............(Justin) Kennedy, who ran the bank’s commercial real-estate team, continued to lend to Trump even though Deutsche clients had suffered severe losses when Trump’s casino business collapsed and he declared bankruptcy.

After Kennedy set up his own finance and property firm in Florida, Enrich writes, he continued to help other members of the Trump family – Ivanka, Kushner and Donald Trump Jr – arrange financing for projects in New York. The New York Observer, which was owned by Kushner, put Kennedy on a list of the 100 most powerful people in New York real estate.

Once Trump was in office, he went out of his way to congratulate Justice Kennedy on his son, calling him a “special guy” and saying how much his own children loved him.

“Trump’s flattery,” Enrich writes, “was part of a coordinated White House charm offensive designed to persuade the ageing justice – for years, the court’s pivotal swing vote – that it was safe to retire, even with an unpredictable man in the Oval Office.”............

When Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement in June 2018, it gave Trump an opportunity to tip the court right with his nomination of Kavanaugh, in turn solidifying support among conservatives otherwise sceptical about Trump’s character.

Enrich writes that having helped to stabilise Trump’s business, Deutsche Bank now “indirectly” helped to stabilise his “floundering presidency”.............

Thomas and Alito wasted no time yesterday in attacking same sex marriages.  As with many other things, it will be history very soon.  Would seem to me that the courts and governments should get out of the marriage business.  No ceremonies, no licenses, no regulation whatsoever.  Also, no tax, property, financial or other benefits.  No divorce proceedings by governments.  No laws against bigamy.  No laws re: eligible age for marriage.   No use of Mr. and Mrs. titles by any government organizations.  As for children they will have parents as listed by those claiming to be parents - no mothers or fathers.

The WHOLE reason McConnell, Graham and Trump are pushing so hard to get her confirmed before the election.  If there is a court case and it goes to the Supreme Court, Trump wins.

Almost as important is that there are thousands of state, local, US House and US Senate races that would also be affected.

The Republicans will have succeeded in stealing the election from the presidency down to the lowest local offices.

You must be an attorney, because the chaos that would ensue under that scenario  would be a lawyer's dream.

Thomas and Alito can rail against same sex marriage all they want, they need an actual CASE brought before them, that the court at large agrees to hear, in order to change anything.

After Reagan got elected people said that Roe V Wade only had a short time to live. And here we are 40 years later and it's still here.

You have birth certificates, marriages, and divorces so that it codifies the relationships and responsibilities between persons. It's the same reason you have title searches and deeds when you build a house. You just can't go into the woods, cut down some trees, and build a house there because nobody is using that land.  If you don't want to get married,  live together for sixty years or six days , you  are free to do so. But marriage should be available to those who want to seal their relationship as permanent.
