HelenBaby2
I really have no interest in watching this movie, but I'm thrilled that Jack Huston is getting a chance in what looks like a big budget epic. He was great in Boardwalk Empire.
Kid Dabb
All the best to Jack Huston - it's his turn. This is as alien to me as the 1907 and 1925 adaptations. I'm stuck on the 1959 film.
HelenBaby2
The 1925 version is very good if you have the patience for silent films.
Kid Dabb
I believe I will watch the 1925 film when next it is shown by TCM.. at a reasonable hour. I was looking at the wiki page and the crowd extras during the chariot race are somewhat impressive. Recommendation enough. Crowd extras during chariot race Reginald Barker John Barrymore Lionel Barrymore Clarence Brown Joan Crawford Marion Davies Douglas Fairbanks George Fitzmaurice Sidney Franklin John Gilbert Dorothy Gish Lillian Gish Samuel Goldwyn Sid Grauman Rupert Julian Henry King Harold Lloyd Colleen Moore Mary Pickford

wouldbestar
Paramount and M-G-M? I thought both were long gone as picture makers, especially M-G-M. Please enlighten.
LawrenceA
Paramount and M-G-M? I thought both were long gone as picture makers, especially M-G-M. Please enlighten. M-G-M was in a very convoluted legal entanglement for some time, which has been resolved, apparently. Paramount never went anywhere. They released 14 films last year. mr6666
there was this in Wiki article..... "MGM had just emerged from bankruptcy due to the global success of the twenty-third James Bond film, Skyfall and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which both went to gross over $1 billion at the box office worldwide including above $300 million in the United States and Canada and Paramount was having their share of success at that time with the biblical tale, Noah.[25][26]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben-Hur_%282016_film%29#Marketing
wouldbestar
Great news! I discovered too late how close I was to Paramount from my hotel at the Festival. I would have given almost anything just to be able to see that entrance or get my pic taken there. That these two great studios are still putting out films after all this time is a testament that the industry is alive and well. The actors in the new film look closer in age to the characters in the book than Heston and Boyd did. Heston was 40 and looked it where Judah was supposedly the same age as Christ who was about 33 when Good Friday occurred. I will see how the movie is received before deciding to see it or not. johnm001
Looks like every other movie made today. Everyone looks dirty, muted colors and obvious CGI. Yawning as I type this.
Decimus
The trailer didn't thrill me, but maybe it'll be better than it looks.
mr6666
just heard THIS line in a new trailer.... (during chariot race...."Are we having FUN yet, brother?")
Kid Dabb
just heard THIS line in a new trailer.... (during chariot race...."Are we having FUN yet, brother?") Do you have to be born after 1985 to appreciate this level of screenwriting? ..and.. shouldn't he have said "bro" or "my friend" instead? ..and why isn't he wearing one of these..?

HEY now, Kid! Could've been worse, ya know! (...yep, at least Messala there didn't say, "Who's your daddy now, Homey?!")

GGGGerald
I can't judge a films I've never seen . Might actually be good. One thing about CGI, you don't have to trips horses with wires anymore. So there is that Oh, that line has already been scripted... for the sequel: Ben Hurts (2017) ... trilogy Ben Hurls (2018) You just know if its a hit , there will be five more. Will those have chariots flying through skyscrapers ? Explosions ? Hero's brother out for revenge... ? Like most Hollywood sequels these days ??
LawrenceA
You just know if its a hit... From what I've read, I don't think that's going happen.

I was just reading an article and the author felt this thing is probably going to flop at the box office.
