loralie5974
I know people who come to this site really know movies, so I hope someone can help me with this problem. I saw a movie on TCM a couple of months ago and would love to see it again. I can't request it, though because I can't remember the name of it. It's about a casino owner in New Orleans who decides to move to Chicago, and set up a new casino. His band leader goes with him. The band leader is Louis Armstrong. I can't recall who played the casino owner. When they get to Chicago, making a long story short the casino owner ends up with a dance club instead of a new casino. Can anyone remember this film? In the film Louis Armstrong has a girl friend who in real life was a famous blues singer. Ethel Waters, maybe? It also has a "white" cast but I am sorry I don't know who any of them are. Robert Osborne introduced it by saying that it started out as a "black" movie and the others are added later. Please write back to me if any one knows the film. marsandmercury
I went to the Internet movie database site [www.imdb.com] and searched under Louis Armstrong. He was in a 1947 movie called "New Orleans" which also features Billie Holiday, and a mostly white cast. The movie was supposed to take place in 1917 when jazz and ragtime were frowned upon. Could this be your movie?
