ElCid
Matt McDermott @mattmfm · 19h "Fascinating dynamic at Shaheen Dinner: Warren supporters cheering for every candidate, standing for Buttigieg, Biden, and Klobuchar. Sanders camp sits silently. Reminder: after this, there must be unity." My comment is that this is indicative of how likely the Sanders camp is to NOT vote for the Dem nominee if it is not Sanders. Just as many did in 2016, thereby electing Trump to the presidency.

mr6666
Shaun King @shaunking · Feb 11 I kid you not. On MSNBC, they just announced that @BernieSanders has taken a BIG lead in New Hampshire, but the panelists then started saying that even though he’s in 1st, that if you add up Pete and Amy together that they are in 1st. That’s actually NOT how elections work.

That’s actually NOT how elections work. I thought the same thing yesterday to show that there are a sizable number of voters who do not want Sanders' Socialism. Of course, to be fair you should probably add Sanders and Warren totals compared to Buttigieg and Klobuchar totals. Then add Bidens to B and K's. By my math that shows 156,174 for moderates and 103,174 for socialists. And in Nov, it will essentially be a two person race.

Heard this yesterday on MSNBC but I find the data point mentioned misleading; in 2016 there were only 2 candidates running, Clinton and Sanders. (well 3 if one counts O'Malley who got zero delegates, compared to the over 20 received by the other two). In 2020 if there were only two viable candidates running, say Sanders and one of the other "moderates", I believe Sanders would have grown his voter turnout.

If by some miracle Sanders gets elected, he will never get either house of Congress to agree to what he wants. In his long, long career in the US House and Senate he has been pretty much ineffectual at accomplishing anything. He would be ignored as president. His vetoes would be over ridden with ease. Any executive orders or actions would immediately be challenged in court and eventually overturned. Very few of his nominations would get approved in the Senate. While a lot of people apparently support him, as Chomsky pointed out Congress is based on people elected from states and districts who are attuned to the people in those districts and states. A majority of the elected representatives and senators come from states and districts that are opposed to all Sanders' stands for. Another factor I foresee is that Sanders' election would cause another Great Recession (2008). Wall Street, Main Street and industries would just shut down waiting to see what happened. They would eliminate employees and benefits and entire facilities to prepare for the anticipated economic downturn with Sanders in the White House. Economic growth would decline and unemployment would go up dramatically. Same thing would happen with a Warren election, but she is a little better at working with Congress. I don't see how Sanders vetoes would be over ridden with ease. That implies enough Dems and Gopers in the House and Senate could get to 2\3 and I don't see that happening expect in a few, very select cases (regardless of who is President).
