He has a record of offensive writings and his own senators opposed his nomination. But Senate Republicans confirmed Kenneth Lee to be a lifetime federal judge anyway.

Pres Trump grants pardon to 68 year old Patrick J. Nolan, one-time GOP Leader in the California Assembly. In 1994, Nolan pleaded guilty in FBI sting targeting illegal campaign contributions. He served 25 months in prison and became advocate for criminal justice reform.

Tonight's pardon to Nolan brings Pres Trump's executive clemency count to: 9 pardon and 2 commutations. Compares at same point in presidencies to:

Obama: 9 and 0

GWBush: 8 and 0

(Doesn't count turkey pardons)

Trump should have said "biographies of past AND PRESENT U.S. presidents that made him worthy of a pardon."  Too much considering Trump doesn't even read.  Black tried to blame his crimes on his accountants which did not work.  You can see that coming with Trump who has already tried to blame Michael Cohen for misguiding him.  From Canada's Globe and Mail ...

Trump signs full pardon for former media mogul Conrad Black
Trump granted a full pardon for Conrad Black. In a White House statement Wednesday evening, Trump cited Black’s former ownership of The Telegraph newspaper and biographies of past U.S. presidents that made him worthy of a pardon. Black was convicted in 2007 of fraud and obstruction of justice for misappropriation of funds at newspaper giant Hollinger International Inc. Black, a Canadian-born British citizen who is 74, served 3½ years in federal prison.

Matthew Miller Retweeted Adrian Morrow

There are thousands of people behind bars, many serving decades-long sentences for low level drug crimes, who deserve pardons. The way Trump keeps handing them out to political cronies and right-wing reactionaries is a pure perversion of the pardon power.

This is when you'll hear people say things like "well, the president has the authority to do this." Sure, the president has the authority to do lots of things under the constitution. It doesn't mean he's not abusing that authority for crass political ends.
