Trump's Biggest Whoppers

BREAKING: In first Trump Tax case, SCOTUS finds against Trump saying that "Article II and the Supremacy Clause do not categorically preclude, or require a heightened standard for, the issuance of a state criminal subpoena to a sitting President."

The court found that a President can defend on the basis of "subpoena-specific constitutional challenges" at the state or federal level and can challenge a subpoena as a violation of the Supremacy Clause in that compliance would impede his constitutional duties.

Roberts wrote the majority opinion with RBG, Sotomayor, Kagan and Breyer concurring. What is interesting is that Kavanaugh submitted a brief concurring on the ruling and Gorsuch joined him. Only Alito and Thomas dissented.

In the congressional subpoena cases, by a 7–2 vote, the Supreme Court rules that Congress DOES have the power to subpoena Trump's financial records—but sends the cases down for the lower courts to more carefully assess "separation of powers concerns."

The Mazars decision is a punt, and the House should be disappointed. SCOTUS has ordered further proceedings in the lower courts that will take some time. If Biden wins in November, the House may never get its hands on Trump's financial records.

Manhattan DA's statement says SCOTUS ruling is a "tremendous victory."

"Our investigation, which was delayed for almost a year by this lawsuit, will resume, guided as always by the grand jury’s solemn obligation to follow the law and the facts, wherever they may lead.”

We have a totally corrupt previous Administration, including a President and Vice President who spied on my campaign, AND GOT CAIGHT...and nothing happens to them. This crime was taking place even before my election, everyone knows it, and yet all are frozen stiff with fear.....No Republican Senate Judiciary response, NO “JUSTICE”, NO FBI, NO NOTHING. Major horror show REPORTS on Comey & McCabe, guilty as hell, nothing happens. Catch Obama & Biden cold, nothing. A 3 year, $45,000,000 Mueller HOAX, failed - investigated everything....Won all against the Federal Government and the Democrats send everything to politically corrupt New York, which is falling apart with everyone leaving, to give it a second, third and fourth try. Now the Supreme Court gives a delay ruling that they would never have given for another President. This is about PROSECUTORIAL MISCONDUCT. We catch the other side SPYING on my campaign, the biggest political crime and scandal in U.S. history, and NOTHING HAPPENS. But despite this, I have done more than any President in history in first 3 1/2 years!

What is striking about these tweets is the president isn't willing to take the tax return victory. He hoped that SCOTUS would shut down the case, affirming his own view that as president a different standard should be applied to him. That is not what happened here.

Even if Trump's tax returns reveal fraud, I find it doubtful that this fact would finally be straw that broke his supporters' back on election day. But importance of ruling is that criminal investigation continues & will exist past expiration of Trump's presidential immunity.

Trump personal attorney Jay Sekulow tells NBC he’s “pleased” that SCOTUS “has temporarily blocked both Congress and New York prosecutors from obtaining the President’s financial records. We will now proceed to raise additional Constitutional and legal issues in the lower courts.”

I suspect this is the moment Trump regrets ever pursuing the vanity project of a presidential run: barring this, he would have continued succeeding in getting away with all the lies, corruption and lawlessness. Now he is going to prison.

NEWS: The U.S. Supreme Court just ruled that Oklahoma prosecutors cannot try Native Americans in state courts for crimes committed on tribal lands, upholding the sovereignty of the Creek Nation and other tribes. This will result in the reversal of some Oklahoma death sentences.

Fmr. McCain campaign lawyer says Trump war on mail-in voting could backfire: “What they’re hearing out of the White House is, ‘It’s fraudulent, it’s dangerous, don’t do it.’ I think it is entirely possible that means it boomerangs on the Republican party.”
