When the count is complete, Democrat Joe Biden will likely have racked up around 80 million votes - and won the White House by a greater margin than any president this century other than Barack Obama in 2008.

President Trump's allies are preparing for the end of his legal fight over the election results well into December, even as they continue to push him to accept a conclusion to his presidency and make post-White House plans.

Since the election, Trump and his allies set out to convince GOP voters that the results are illegitimate, and the country's electoral system is corrupt.

Polling suggests the messaging campaign is working as planned.

The pieces fell into place long ago.

Joe Biden is President-elect of the United States.

Donald Trump lost, as Biden took five states Trump won in ’16, including two deep red states.

Trump has no chance of overturning the vote. Time to pack.

Today at the WH. 13th time since Election Day, no events on the President’s schedule. VP Pence holding another Coronavirus Task Force meeting this afternoon. On lighter note, WH announces Mrs Trump will receive the WH Christmas Tree on Monday, an 18½-foot Fraser Fir from Oregon,

Business leaders are speaking with one voice — Biden will be the next president and the Trump administration should cooperate in the transition without delay.

Joe Biden has an incredibly ambitious legislative agenda: He wants to rework the nation’s health care laws, fund infrastructure and pass a new round of Covid relief. '

But there’s one massive — and familiar — complication in his agenda: Mitch McConnell.

AP: Trump reached out to the Wayne County MI canvassers, Monica Palmer and William Hartmann “to express gratitude for their support. Then, on Wednesday, Palmer and Hartmann signed affidavits saying they believe the county vote ‘should not be certified.’”

This surely cannot be legal.

The guy that is up for election personally telephones to put pressure on the people who are to certify the count?  Banana Republic time.

Trump has exposed many weaknesses in the government.  Now comes the time to fix some of that.  Story in The Atlantic.

"What went wrong in the Trump era was not that the president delicately tiptoed around the law. What went wrong in the Trump era was that the cops in charge of the law were asleep, or senile, or in cahoots with the president," writes :

Wow. Trump **called** those two putzes in Wayne County. Whan Il Duce gives a direct order, the People (and people) follow it. (Yes yes—he’s more like Krusty the Clown than Mussolini and this will fail. It’s still grotesque and dangerous.)

It appears that the president is personally lobbying GOP county-level canvassers to overturn his election defeat. It doesn't matter that he will fail. It's still an attempted coup, and Republicans who remain silent are normalizing attempted coups. https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-donald-trump-local-elections-arizona-michigan-29da6aac9cc41e47f3095855e7af7031

No more happy talk about the "uniquely American transition of power." Trump presidency and this post-election period confirm that the US is *less* committed to democratic norms - and has *weaker* institutional safeguards for democracy - than peer wealthy democracies.

80 million people voted to eject Trump and replace him. One official at the General Services Administration has successfully defied that vote for some 2 weeks. In a more democratic culture, she'd say No. The story of the Trump years is how many like her have said Yes.
