Garbo Glamour and Lamarr Allure

Recommended Posts

Then you have a picture like this and you think it's the epitome of femeninity and grace and you want to see more like this as well,I'm confused.

BTW,I love this pic overall, this was a good hairstyle for her.Her makeup is subtle on the eyes and emphasizing her mouth.

Garbo had great bone structure, she could make any picture look amazing. What color were her eyes?

The first one I just found and wanted to post because it's a great pic but

I thought I'd also find another one for you were she's smiling.

I don't know what color they were -

he was joking about that green-tinted picture (see below).

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as serious.

I hadn't gone back to page 2 and now know what you're talking about.

That picture is really pretty but looks touched up,they always did that in those days. They took a color closest to the persons own natural color and enhanced it.

Therefore,Garbo's eyes MUST have been green, sorry for you Ken!

This Swede had GREEN eyes.

Well, CB, I suppose I will have to back peddle some due to my statement that there are many Garbo pictures of her smiling. I have seen so many pics of her that, yes there are many, but when you go try to find one, it is difficult. I think this is due to the fact that after she reached a certain point in her career, and this happened during her silent career, she said, "No more publicity pictures!" And, by that she meant no "fun" pictures! No pictures of her were allowed unless they were directly connected to the film. So, at the end of each film, she would gather up two or three costumes, carry them in her arms, sometimes dragging them, to the photographer's studio on the lot. Then, she would get dressed in one of the costumes and become that character again so they could have some pictures to advertise the movie. So, if she smiled, you can almost bet it was in character and not Greta Garbo! So, even though she is smiling in some of these shots I feel she is smiling as the character would, which seems a little insincere.

The ratio seems to be something like 20-1 non-smiling to smiling.

James & Jeff,

The Garbo picture with Leo the Lion was in our bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel last year.

I always thought that this was the picture that put her off publicity photos as she sure doesn't look like she's happy with her 'co-star'.....

It has always been my understanding though that Leo was the most cooperative of MGM's stars and was very docile.

We always said "goodnight" to Miss Garbo before retiring for the night.....

She never replied!!

Hey Larry,

No, Greta doesn't look all too thrilled and seems to be leaning away from Leo.

I think I've heard of Leo before in documentaries and such.

I tried to pick out the most unique pictures out of a set thirty or so -

of course one with a lion would fit.

(They all have that red tint to them unfortunately).

Well, talk to you later,

glad you got back safely from your trip!

Jeff
