This actor was a Hollywood favorite and, though married a few times, was reputed to have settled down with his last wife. Years after his passing it came out that he had, in fact, begun an affair shortly after has last marriage. His paramour had been involved with him before, but they weren?t seeing each other at the time of his nuptials. The popular actor and his mistress were involved for more than 10 years, right up to her engagement and marriage to a producer.

Who was the actor?for some serious extra points, who was the mistress?

?Pete? was Verita Bouvaire Peterson Thompson. She and Bogart reportedly met at the wrap party for *Casablanca*. Verita had been an actress, became wigmaker and stylist to the stars (Gary Cooper, Charles Boyer, Ray Milland, Bogart and others). She wrote a book about it in the early 80s and Jeffrey Meyers makes reference to their affair in his 1997 Bogart biography. Verita worked for Bogart as an all-around assistant for several years. Bogart called Bacall ?Baby? as well as Betty?your turn?

I was a dancer as a child, and appeared in clubs and on stage before my early-'40s film debut. After many supporting roles, I played the title role in a costume drama, and then I became typecast in similar exotic roles, also occasionally appearing in westerns or noirs. On TV, I starred in a well-known comic series in the '60s, and in the early '70s I appeared in a Broadway musical hit.

Thanks, Finance- I began on Broadway and did some work on television. I went to Hollywood to pursue a film career. I did play roles in war films and westerns.I returned to television and had a long running TV series. After the series ended I did some more film work.I taught acting and the state that I lived in bestowed an honor on me. I can trace my roots back to an American legend and one of my living cousins is a famous entertainer. Who am I?

Thanks, Lavender. I knew about Richard and Pat Boone being cousins when I was checking on names for the "Same Name No Relation" thread. Of course, I couldn't use them then. As you probably know, the "Have Gun-Will Travel" theme was featured in Rob Reiner's film "Stand By Me", and now the show is featured on the Encore western channel. Now, do you know me? I was a popular child actor in the thirties and early forties, but in real life I was very mischeivous and disrespectful of authority. I once literally gummed up the works of the camera on the set with chewing gum. That forced a postonement in shooting for the day. I urinated on some kleeg lights so when they were turned on and heated up, the stench was so bad that the set had to be cleared. Director George Sidney said that he wanted to see me on my 18th birthday, just so he sould punch me in the nose. As I got into my teens, the kid parts were fewer and I became a supporting player. Somehow I seemed to be type cast as a mischeivous adolescent. I was one of the boys who stole a turkey in "Going My Way". I was the guy who pushed the button to open the gym floor over the pool in "It's a Wonderful Life". I was not what you would call a handsome lad. In "White Christmas" it was my picture that was used as Benny Haynes, the brother of Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. In the fifties I did some television, including several episodes of "The Roy Rogers Show". Roy and Dale were my Godparents. I also became a hunting guide. I got into a fight with my business partner over $50.00. He shot and killed me. The court called it self defense. I was only thirty-one years old. Do you know me?

Thank you.

?I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where I had an early interest in acting. I joined my high school drama club and was encouraged so much there for my performances in Shakespeare productions, that was cast in a professionaI play and even earned a scholarship to Vassar. But I grew homesick and quit after a year to study at the University of Cincinnati. I left my studies to go on tour with a friend who was an actor, who said, I could be a star, if I wanted. With him, I was, as you might say, discovered. From 1933 to 1943, I was in 24 movies, a few of them are still remembered today. You may even have seen me last night. It was rumored that, my father, being the old-school kind he is, wouldn?t let me have a kissing scene in any of my movies. I was called a natural beauty and almost angelic looking. Maybe I looked too pure, as the studio didn?t know what to do with me and I given little to nothing to do in my later films. I married and settled down after deciding the home life was for me, and in later years I would get my masters in languages and teach at UCLA. I am perhaps most identified as giving a special boy a wish, and though you may not know it, you see me or my image every time you see a certain studio?s movies, as I was their model. So perhaps you could say I never did leave Hollywood.?

Thanks, Lana

I was a former wrestler who started on the stage in bit parts using my wrestling experience, and gradually broadened my roles. In many more than 100 films, starting in the late '20s, I usually played a dumb, good-intentioned guy or the obtuse butt of the gags of a few of the best-known comic teams. I also appeared in many of a series of similarly-titled fims co-starring a member of a famous acting family.
