Kid Dabb
Doris Day has her original first name AND the musical credits matching your query, but I can't confirm her as Russian-Jewish.. only German grandparents. She's been in more than a few films, also. Dinah Shore has the Russian-Jewish heritage but not the musical credits or original first name. She's only been in a few films, so that part fits. That's where I'm at.. a combination of both.Pour me some more Raisin Bran and pass the milk, I'm goin' back in. gummball
Dinah Washington being the other singer?
DownGoesFrazier
Sorry. Neither Dinah Shore nor Doris Day. The song that this singer is perhaps best-known for later became a Sinatra standard. It was introduced by her in a well-known early '40s Fox musical which starred John Payne.

MilesArcher
It's Helen Forrest. She sang with Shaw, Goodman, and James. The other Helen was Helen O'Connell.
DownGoesFrazier
Of course. Yours, Miles......Her real name was Helen Fagan, and the song she introduced was "I Had the Craziest Dream" in SPRINGTIME IN THE ROCKIES. MilesArcher
Thanks. Do you know me? When I was a young girl, I took dancing classes with another young girl named Vera-Ellen. She grew up to be a top dancer/actress in musicals. I grew up to be a singer/actress in musicals. I also did lots of non-musicals, mostly comedies, but a few dramas too. I am considered a major star. DownGoesFrazier
Since Vera-Ellen was from Cincinnati, I will guess Doris Day.

DownGoesFrazier
I was a minor supporting actor in several films of the '40s and '50s, and I was very recently seen in a major film on TCM. I was also the founder of a well-known restaurant chain.

Kid Dabb
Thank you, finance I spent my childhood in Philadelphia, and attended Roman Catholic schools there. One night, while I was standing in the wings of a popular London play in my nurse's costume, the leading actress became ill and went home, still dressed in her costume. The theater manager told me I would have to replace her, dressed as I was. I protested that I didn’t know her part, but I went out in my nurse’s uniform and carried the show. It was a splendid performance, and I was noticed. Men everywhere were smitten with me, most notably one young man who asked me to marry him. Not wishing to be a politician's wife, I refused. I won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for my role in a 1944 film. I made it plain that I was not overly impressed by it. Much later, my Oscar was offered for sale on eBay. In 1956, I hosted 14 episodes of a TV series titled after me. Do you know me?
