*Do you know me..*

I was the second of three children born to Irish immigrants. I studied engineering in high school.While in school, I became interested in acting, and began to perform in vaudeville at the age of fifteen. While working as a bank clerk, I enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a private with the 101st Field Artillery Regiment in France during World War I. Following the war, I moved to Guatemala and raised pineapples, before settling in Los Angeles, California. During the 1920s, I became involved in the real estate market, in which I made a fortune, but lost most of my money when the market took a sudden downturn in the Great Depression.

Finding myself broke, I began taking bit parts in films, working my way up to being considered one of the finest character actors in motion picture history. In all, I would appear in more than 230 film and TV roles in my career spanning nearly five decades. I always appeared older than I really was. This may have been due to an early accident altering my appearance and a suggestion made by a sound effects man, altering my behavior.

{font:Times New Roman}Born in Poland, I was playing the piano at the age of seven. I studied law at my father’s insistence, but loved composing music. After graduating from the Chopin Music School, I wrote for a German cabaret to make money. I moved to Paris and get involved in French films. An American movie mogul heard my music, when he came to Paris on vacation and offered me a contract. I cowrote the music for a song to a 1936 American film that was so successful that it became a standard. Though I composed over a hundred scores to movies, I was nominated only three times for an Oscar, winning once in the early 1950s. Since my first introduction to music was through the piano, I would most times compose on it, getting the orchestration developed later in collaboration, and lessening the piano. Some of the leading actresses in these movies are Greer Garson, Lana Turner, and Barbara Stanwyck, among many, many others. Do you know me?{font}

Tracking this down, it was all new to me. Me, when Brad Dexter's name comes up I think of The Magnificent Seven or of his wife, Peggy Lee. Next up:

1970s slam-bang adventure built around a commando action in Africa. Ensemble acting, large, international cast. One American actor, big name, was approached for one of the key role. He seemed to favor the idea, but he was not hired. One story says they did not meet his salary demands. Another, seemingly the most probable, says that he wrote a series of letters suggesting plot changes enlarging his role,and nudging a Very Big Name (British) aside into a diminished part. As a result, this international production went down without an American in the cast.

Who and what?

Do you know me?

I am an actress with some major film credits and awards. I didn't stop there, I went on to television with a very successful series using my same first name and received more awards. Later in my career, I replaced another actress for only one season in a very big night time soap, the original actress returned the following season. We were the matriarchs of a large family.
