The Lady Eve
Are you Dick Powell?
MilesArcher
I sure am Dick Powell! My breakthrough movie was "42nd Street". I was mis-cast in "A Midsummer's Night's Dream". My career changing film was "Murder, My Sweet". My production company was Four Star Productions, which I formed with Charles Boyer, David Niven, and Ida Lupino. The movie that I directed where many people ended up contracting cancer was "The Conquerer" with John Wayne. I was married to Joan Blondell and June Allyson. Perhaps I made it too easy, or perhaps theladyeve really is on top of her game. I suspect the latter. Nice going, Eve! Your thread.
The Lady Eve
Thanks, Miles?your clue referring to *The Conqueror* clinched it?one of my early posts on a General Discussion thread was about the controversy surrounding the deaths connected to the filming of that picture? I studied under Lee Strasberg in the 50?s and worked on one of the early TV in soap operas as well as on live dramas and series of the era?I?ve accomplished much work on Broadway, including two Tony Award winning performances. An early bit part in a Bill Holden film led to a Paramount contract but I never became a movie star. I have had some decent film roles in my career: reprising parts I originated on Broadway, a leading role in a dark satire, co-starring or supporting roles in romantic and other comedies. During the 80?s I voiced a cartoon character for a popular Hanna-Barbera series; I also won an Emmy during that decade for a role reprised from one of my Tony-winning performances. More recently I?ve been Emmy-nominated for my portrayal of a character in a current series; one of the best on television?

(and now waiting patiently for season 4 to come around). You got it, lavender, I?m Robert Morse, winner of Tony Awards for "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and "Tru" (for which I also won an Emmy). I play Bertram Cooper, one of the founders of Sterling-Cooper, and was nominated for an Emmy for my portrayal of him in 2008?it?s your thread? lavenderblue19
A sad childhood. Mother died when I was 4. Father remarried, then deserted us. He left us with an abusive stepmother. Beating the odds and being very talented and determined by the time I was 21 I was well known in the music field. As a profession, acting is not what I'm best known for, although I was nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar and appeared in a few films. My voice was used in some well known films. My contributions to many films have been numerous.I appeared on television many times. I'm a legend in the entertainment industry, and many other legends have named me has an important influence in their careers. Who am I?

lavenderblue19
Excellent VF-- Peggy Lee- Too much to say about Miss Lee. I hope everybody takes the time to read her bio. She was extraodinordinary. She was nominated for *Pete Kelly's Blues* as best supporting Actress and did co star with Danny Thomas in the remake of The Jazz Singer, and of course there's is always the wonderful *The Lady and the Tramp* . She wrote and co wrote so many scores and title songs for films. My very favorite of her songs are *Fever* , *Is That All There Is?* and *It's A Good Day*. I think Miss Lee was a precious gem. VF it's your thread and thanks for playing this round.

lavenderblue19
I started out as a singing waiter. I made my way to NY (not too far to go since I was born in NJ) I was discovered by a very famous director and a very famous actor. After working hard at the Neighborhood Playhouse I got to do some stage work. That lead me to Hollywood as a contract player. I mostly appeared in war films then in noirs. In the late 50's I appeared as a regular on a tv series. Later in my career, I played a plum role in a film that is considered to be one of the greatest of all time. Who am I?

lavenderblue19
So you knew it was Barzini all along. I've had a crush on Richard Conte ever since I saw him in *Ocean's Eleven* in a movie theater when I was 9. Good job finance, your thread. Oh, it was Kazan and John Garfield that discovered Richard Conte.
DownGoesFrazier
I was among Hollywood's most prolific directors, with over 400 films to my credit, in addition to hundreds more I produced, supervised, or wrote. Still, I am not very well-known. I directed my first film well before WW I, and my last in the late '50s. I was trained as an engineer, which helped me develop my techniques, many of which were trailblazing innovations in the industry. Many of my sound films were routine or B pictures, but I directed 2 films for a top BO star in the '30s, 4 fast-paced comedies and an excellent war film in the '40s, and a group of low-budget but highly acclaimed Westerns in the '50s. RobinsHood
This is non other than the great _Allan Dwan_ Who made films such as: *John Wayne* *Sands of Iwo Jima*. and the *Douglas Fairbanks* version of *Robin Hood* ? He himself said at one time that he thought he had directed over 1400 films of which also including one-reelers This would span from his entry of films 1909 to his final one in 1961; *Most Dangerous Man Alive* (1961) staring *Debra Paget* and *Ron Randell*.. Not only was he one the early pioneers of films, he also had some inventions which has helped the movie making biz immensely..such; Camera Dollies and Crane Shot...
