visualfeast
I was a very popular female actress in the forties-fifties. I looked great in technicolor, and was usually cast in comedies...but I made a big impression in my two darker films.

MilesArcher
Thanks. Do you know me? I started as an actress in silent films, but I had a very unremarkable career in that medium, maybe because my rather distinctive voice could not be heard. It wasn't until the mid-thirties that I finally landed some plum roles, beginning with one in a John Ford picture. I followed that up with one for Frank Capra in a very well received film. I did a few more for Capra. all rather notable. I did a picture for George Stevens that garnered me an Oscar nomination. Two years later, I quit movies for a while when my contract ran out. It was rumored that I ran through the studio lot shouting "I'm Free, I'm Free". I would return a few years later in a Billy Wilder film, and a few years later I worked for Stevens again in what would be my final film. I was good at what I did, but I didn't enjoy Hollywood. The work was okay, but the lack of privacy eventually got to me and I felt that I had to get out. I tried to make a comeback years later in television, but my series was cancelled after half a season. By the way, I turned down the Donna Reed role in "It's a Wonderful Life". That was probably not a good career move. Do you know me?

The Lady Eve
Thank you, Miles? I came to the U.S. from Europe and started in business on the east coast. I was extremely successful but fell in love with movies, which were then in their infancy, and went to see as many as I could. Eventually, with associates, I produced my first film?I was even more successful in the film business than I was as a ?civilian?! I led a storied life, lived into my 90?s and left descendents who continue in the movie business to this day?my name is well-known, though it?s not the one I was born with. Do you know me? DownGoesFrazier
I was a highly successful stage producer and talent agent, as well as one of the most colorful characters in American show business. Early in my career, I worked in the publicity department of one studio and in the scenario department of another studio. I produced 3 well-known Hollywood films of the mid-to-late fifties, in addition to a long string of Broadway hits. I was very well-connected in both Broadway and Hollywood, and my second wife was a well-known stage and screen star who died suddenly, tragically. Who am I?........... .ted by: finance on Dec 24, 2009 10:12 AM Edited by: finance on Dec 24, 2009 11:13 AM Edited by: finance on Dec 24, 2009 11:36 AM

DownGoesFrazier
Yes, I am Leland Hayward. I was married to Margaret Sullavan (SHOP AROUND THE CORNER was just on TCM) who committed suicide in 1960. Your thread, Eve.
The Lady Eve
Born and raised in California, I got into the movie business early, even working as a stunt double while I was still in high school? My career was long and in the early years I made several romances with Constance Bennett. I wasn?t the movie star type and was pretty much ignored by the critics but made some very successful films, worked with many top directors, and have a couple of classics on my resume?one film writer commented on my ?consistently enjoyable body of work.? I have been attributed with ?sierralike handsomeness? and ?a knack of underplaying key moments?? I married an actress and, contrary to the norm in Hollywood, we stayed married, nearly 60 years, ?till death do us part.?

DownGoesFrazier
I was a successful model and cover girl from age 5, and played child roles on radio soap operas. I appeared on some early TV programs and made my screen debut with MGM in the late '40s. I played mostly bit parts and minor roles until the early '50s when I was signed by Fox, where I developed into a second rank leading lady. I later returned to MGM and played for other studios as well, but despite my blonde good looks, I never became a popular star. I also appeared frequently on TV, and starred in my own series briefly in the mid-'60s. I also starred in a memorable episode of a landmark anthology series.
